Ware May Need Favre

It's a shame the Cowboys don't play the Jets this month. That way linebacker DeMarcus Ware would have a real shot at Michael Strahan's NFL-record of 22.5 sacks that was Brett Favre aided.

Ware currently has 15 sacks, which leads the league. He's going to need a monster last month to catch Strahan, or a quarterback who has no problem taking a dive to make sure he gets the mark.

But Ware has been thinking about the record.

"You've got to keep it out of your mind," Ware said. "It's all really just being consistent. That's what I told myself at the beginning of the season, and I've been doing that, and doing really well with that philosophy. ...

"It is possible. It's in reach. Once I get there, then we can talk about it."

Ware did say he plans to ware a brace on the left knee that he hyper extended, but that he feels good even wearing it.

It's not impossible. Ben is one of the most sacked QB's in the league. If he can have another Seattle game against the Steelers.. the I'd say he'd have a reasonable chance to get there.

I'm thinking he ends up with between 19-21.... Which is still an incredible number.

Maybe then everyone can stop *****ing about how "he's not Charles Haley" because he doesn't have that "mean streak" and he's not hanging all over the QB "every play" or whatever other mythical superhero powers have been assigned to Charles after his retirement.

He needs 8 sacks against PIT, NYG, BAL and PHI. That's 2/game. That's a tough average.

In sacks given up, these teams rank:

PIT - #6 (36)
NYG - #26 (15)
BAL - #16 (23)
PHI - #23 (18)

The best opportunities for multiple-sack games will be against PIT and BAL. I think he comes up just short.

BUT...next year, if we can find a legit NT and move Ratliff to DE, it'll help Ware get there (if Ratliff doesn't beat him to it haha)

The year that Strahan broke the record he had 16.5 sacks at this point in the season. In the last 4 games he had .5 sacks, 1 sack, 3.5 sacks and 1 sack. For Ware to tie the record he's have to finish the season with something like 2 sacks, 2 sacks, 2 sacks, 1.5 sacks. 7.5 sacks in 4 games. The most sacks Ware has ever had in a four game span is 6 and it was this year.

He needs 8 sacks against PIT, NYG, BAL and PHI. That's 2/game. That's a tough average.

But you have to remember that in the first Giants game, the Cowboys sacked Eli, four times with Ware, having one of them so it's not like the Giants, or the Eagles are going to completely shut him down from getting close to the record.
