per my friend from multiple Chargers forum.

Not a surprise due to the extreme suckage at the MLB position in San Diego. I don't know about everyone else but I think losing him would be a big blow on Special Teams and third down. I wish we could find a way to keep him!!!

Our special teams can't get much worse than last year...and I honestly think B Carp can do some of the same things in the nickel because of his athleticism.

If Burnett can stay healthy he will be a very good linebacker. I woulda rather kept Burnett over Chris Canty.

Will be interesting to see what he would sign for with the Chargers since they have alot of folks coming up that need paid. Merriman to name one and he won't come cheap.

Kev obviously thinks hes worth more than anyone wants to pay him.

I'd sure like to see him come back to earth and stay in Dallas.

Sucks to watch players bolt for money. I understand it but it sucks.

I don't blame players for getting the money while it's out there, the NFL stands for Not For Long.

No doubt but how man millions is enough?

I just don't know if it is worth a couple extra million to go to a team that has far less of a shot to win.

Of course that really only means something for players who will make many millions a year.

For Kev, he could probably hope for 4 at most.

He's been on a lot of visits it seems like, at least 3 right? He may actually want to stay in Dallas and no one has thrown a number at him that is so much more than us that he'd leave.

If I read the other article right, it seemed like we were willing to give Canty 6 mil a year and he left for only a mil more. So with that savings maybe we can keep him.

I would think that the Boys had an estimated budget of what it would offer it's own FA from the start of free agency, so maybe they can offer an extra mil to Burnett, from Canty not resigning.

I'd also love to see us go out and get Shawn Springs, I think we move him to FS, if we do.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel mentioned the Packers as a team interested in Burnett. Here is an excerpt from the article.

".....To that end, the Packers are eyeing a couple of free agents who could offer instant help, the most notable being Dallas linebacker Kevin Burnett, a former second-round draft choice who will be entering his fifth season in 2009. Of all the remaining linebackers, Burnett might have the most potential because of his athleticism and untapped ability.

According to an NFL source, the Packers have strong interest in Burnett but have not set up a visit yet, possibly because the former University of Tennessee linebacker was in Oakland Tuesday and will be in San Diego Wednesday..."

It's not a rumor.

Kevin Burnett-LB-Cowboys Mar. 4 - 12:03 am et

In addition to the Chargers and Raiders, the Packers reportedly have "strong interest" in free agent LB Kevin Burnett.
The Packers view Burnett as an outside linebacker, a position he hasn't played in the pros. They'd probably be better off letting him sign elsewhere. Green Bay needs rushers and Burnett has just four sacks in four seasons.

It kinda looks to me like the Cowboys don't want him back. Of course they may just be letting him test FA to get an idea what to offer him to come back. Unless he can play more than SPs then I'm not certain they are spending their money wisely.

Also keeping him just for that ties up a roster spot. Hopefully they can draft someone who can grow up to be a three down LB.

Burnett close to being a Charger?

Got a text from Cowboys linebacker Kevin Burnett about midnight last night and he said he is real close to being a San Diego Charger.

Burnett is hopeful that everything will be finalized Wednesday.

If so, he will be the second unrestricted free agent to leave the Cowboys for more money and potentially greener pastures in the past four days. Defensive end Chris Canty signed a six-year, $42 million contract with the Giants on Sunday.

Burnett's departure will be no surprise either. His financial demands were too rich for the Cowboys and his on field goals didn't line up with Coach Wade Phillips. He wants an opportunity to start, while the Cowboys see him as more of a nickel linebacker and special teams player.

It's one reason they signed Keith Brooking to start at the weakside inside linebacker position opposite Bradie James.

Still, the Cowboys will miss Burnett and must find someone to replace him. He was a solid nickel linebacker and was one of the team's top special teams players. They signed Matt Stewart on Tuesday to give them some help on special teams.Hopefully the Cowboys can finally count on Bobby Carpenter to make a contribution in the nickel defense.

Burnett visited the Raiders on Monday before heading to San Diego on Tuesday.

San Diego will be good fit for him because he grew up in Los Angeles and it puts him close to home.
