Gailey out as Chiefs offensive coordinator

KANSAS CITY, MO.(AP) —The Kansas City Chiefs have fired Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator.

The Chiefs said head coach Todd Haley would address Gailey’s status with the team after Monday’s practice.

The Chiefs had retained Gailey when Haley was hired in the offseason.

The team is heading into the 2009 season with big questions about its offensive line, and the health of quarterback Matt Cassel(notes). Cassel was injured in Saturday’s preseason loss to Seattle.

Whoa, that is shocking this close to the season opener.
The panic button is already getting pushed up here. The brass was wanting the appearance that the franchise had turned the corner with a new HC and starrting QB. So far they are not getting that as the play on the field hasn't been good.

The 3 worst hires this off season so far seem to be Josh McDaniels, Scott Pioli (yes, I said it), and Eric Mangini.

With the Chargers getting six games against the Raiders, Chiefs and Broncos, will they maybe just send half the team to save on travel expenses?

I don't disagree. McDaniels was on SportCenter last night and my wife about fell off the couch when I told her who that was. She said he sounded like a idiot.

I do wish Gailey well.

A good friend of mine is a diehard fan and he is mad as heck with the way the Chefs are running the franchise.

When I was in Kansas I use to take great pride in a Chef's loss except dealing with my friend because he was such a nice guy. Everyone else received no mercy, lol.

Haley either is:

(A) A loose cannon; in over his head.
(B) Right on. Offensive minded coach who feels having control over practices / play calling gives his team best chance to win.
(C) Just trying to answer the question on Monday morning after his starting QB goes down to injury, "What would Bill do?"
(D) None of the above. Shut up Doctor 32

Was reading speculation that with Gailey and Cowher having such a good relationship, Chan will bide his time while collecting a check this year and then join Bill's staff if he coaches in 2010. It would be ironic if it were here.

Haley was probably cussing at him and the team all the time and Gailey told him to quit cussing in front of grown men!!!!

I guess firing him is better than breaking his jaw and then firing him. IMO.

YES. You can have whatever you want.
Every time I see Todd Haley on the sideline as the HC, I recall that hilarious shot of Parcells girly-slap-pushing Haley when he was barking at the ref in 2006 with the Cowboys.
