Gallimore likely a cut-candidate moving forward

Let me put it this way.

Everyone understand that our run defense has been suspect to plain bad the past few years. The player most responsible for poor run defense over that time has been Gallimore.

He gets blown off the ball regularly. About the nicest thing I can say about him is he is not as bad as Nick Hayden was.

I think/hope that the addition of Mazi will help Gallimore focus on being the best 3-tech he can be, as he was as a rookie. I believed he put on extra weight to play both the 1 an 3, last year and the weight did him no favors.
I do agree with you on this.
I think the same could be said for Watkins last year as well.
When Watkins and Gallimore were being asked to plat the 1/3, they struggled.
When Hankins arrived, Watkins flourished playing more 3, and I think the same could be true for Gallimore (which is likely why he is still on the team). I think it's likely we carry 5 DTs on the 53, but we can sometimes "hide" someone on IR as well (either due to real injury or not). Ideally, we'd have 2 1 techs (Mazi/Hankins and maybe hide Bohana on the PS), 2 3 techs (Osa/Gallimore), and 2 5 techs (Gholston/Fehoko), with some of them having some flex.Maybe someone gets "hidden" on IR, and Bohana gets protected on the PS.
I think Mazi and Osa are locks, with other spots having some competition.
My guess is 5 on the 53, 1 on IR and 1 on the PS.

He was one of those who was supposed to step up and make plays last year. He didn't live up to the preseason hype.

3rd round pick only had 74 tackles and 3 sacks in 3 years. Time to move on.
He makes two or three plays where he wins off the snap and is right in the backfield. He cannot take on blocks. For an NFL DT that is unacceptable.

Has a mountain of work ahead of him to keep his job. I'm actually surprised, thought he did well.

Scoop here: Gallimore
Gallimore's problem is that he is a poor fit for what Quinn wants to do.

He's a *balanced* DT, run/pass. Works for a 4-3.
For run we want a NT and two ends who can set the edge.
For pass we want DE/DT tweeners and edge specialists.
Gallimore just isn't on that list.

He's a guy who would be definitely better off elsewhere. Some 4-3 base team will want him, and he'll make a better showing for himself there.

Unless he gets outplayed in TC by some down roster player I say he stays and walks next season. No way he will be stashed on the PS some team will pick him up off the PS.

Nah he'll be cut. He's had plenty of opportunity to progress.

Practice squad is for younger players who need time to develop.
Didn’t we just have Brandon Carr on practice squad lol? Unless they changed the rules again I thought teams were using it now to stash guys on it in case of injury?

I mean it’s tough. For me I wonder how well a you like Fehoko has to play in order to get Gallimores spot?

Guess since the cat is out....won't get any kind of trade value for him... will just be cut and can get picked off waivers if any GM wants to take a looksy.

Teams can protect up to four PS players each week during the season from being picked by other teams.

Am I the only one who still thinks the Cowboys are thin at DT? Last year they waived Ridgeway, cut Hill, and then we lost Watkins to free agency. I view Golston and Fehoko as 3rd and long type pass rushing DTs, and if Mazi shows any kind of pass rush ability he could make one of the Golston/Fehoko pair obsolete.

I was hugely disappointed with Gallimore last year. And honestly Bohanna hasn't shown much either. But I think both should get a shot to win a rotational spot. And we have to see how Hankins does this year as well. He is no spring chicken.

He gained weight thinking he could be a 1-tech and just didn’t have it. He lacks the length to stack and he’s really only good on stunts and playing a single gap scheme.

He can trim down to play 3-tech but I don’t see him sticking to the roster, he’s too limited and we’ve got other guys that can do more.

I think the issue is well for me anyway is they have bodies but I have no confidence in any of them. I like Mazi for the long haul but realistically how well are we expecting him to play year 1? Hankins SHOULD Be ok long as father time doesn't hit him. Gallimore and Bohanna have shown nothing. OSA I probably feel the best about honestly.

he might be on the bubble but he has been in and out injured , doubt hes been the lone glaring issue.

I understand that but if I am the FO either he is good enough to make the game day active, why waste a protected slot for a guy that is going to walk and net nothing anyways

I mentioned he was a likely cut candidate a few weeks ago because he hasn’t developed the way the team hoped and he was in the doghouse last year for at least part of the season. I had hopes he would develop into a real good player but he’s been pretty disappointing.
