Sadly it could be looked at two ways.

We realized he was not going to pan out so we let him go and now others have as well.

Or...we just wasted time, money and a draft pick again on a QB.

Sign him up. Oh, wait. That is just a natural instinct when I see someone released.

but it is really all because Parcells wouldn't give him a chance.

How does the NCAA eligibility rules work? Had he not signed w/ the Cowboys after his stint w/ the Yankees, could he have gone back to school ala Chris Weinke?

He had to declare to the NFL in order to get drafted. One he declared for the NFL, he could not go back to college. Plus I think eligibility begins once you start your first year. You then have 5 years to get in 4 years of sports. He was past those 5 years when he was in the minors.

Somehow this is also BP's fault as everything else is.

Of course. he ruined Henson's confidence by not getting him killed in 2004.

If someone could perfect how to determine the mental toughness of a QB coming out of college they would be a billionair...when you look at all the busts who had all the physical tools the list goes on and on...Henson fits that perfectly.

Perhaps there was a glimpse of the mental toughness of Drew Henson, Chad Hutchinson and Quincy Carter. They all failed at baseball. There is nothing wrong with not ending up being a great baseball player because there are only a few people capable of doing it. There are fewer that even get a shot to play at fairly high levels in two sports like they did. I do think them walking away from baseball at young ages is telling.

Perhaps...I just don't want to go 0-4 on ex-baseball players anytime soon.

The sad part for him is he would still have a roster spot here in Dallas as Jerry's QB pet project for as long as he wanted if he hadn't let Matt Mosely and others whisper sweet nothings in his ear about how he would be better off elsewhere and Parcells is holding him back out of some imagined silly personal vendetta.

Onwards to the CFL.

The CFL season is almost over for this season. The playoffs are right around the corner with the Grey Cup on November 19th. Circle your calender.

Henson’s departure is a result of Tarvaris Jackson being ready to return to practice next week after having minor knee surgery late last month. Henson was signed primarily so quarterbacks Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger would not have to take all the reps in practice.

That was taken from a Minneapolis newspaper account of the transaction today.

of course, if they thought he'd develop then keeping him on the PS wouldn't have been crazy.

That practice snap stuff is silly -- why wouldn't you want your #2 to get all the snaps he could? That's all the action he sees unless the #1 gets hurt.

I agree with you, I've always thought that was silly reasoning, but the way I've heard it told, the 3rd team (scout) QB always gets more practice work than the #2. I agree, makes no sense to me at all.

I think Henson probably didn't get any practice snaps with the offense. He probably only got snaps with the scout team. That seems to be what most 3rd string QBs get. They don't leave that to the 2nd string QB because he is busy learning his own teams offense. That is why Dallas signed a QB to their practice squad, so Romo or some non-QB didn't have to run the scout team.
