Gallup trade debate

Trust me, I'm not hoping it happens, I love having the NFL's best 3 man rotation at WR.

But many consider him to be overkill to the WR corps. Some say he may have already peaked and that he had too many easy drops this year and that he is expendable. Not saying I agree with this assessment, but it is an opinion held by some.

I do think there is a very good chance we will lose him after next season. I don't see how they can afford to sign him to a multi-year deal with all the other contracts already in play and coming soon. And there is always the mindset to get something for a player while you can.

Some think he will re-sign with the team to stay the #2, but that Lamb will be the #1 and Dallas will instead release Cooper after 2021. After 3 straight 1000yd seasons, Amari is making that very hard to believe.

I wish we could wait until after '21 to make this decision but we obviously would lose any chance to trade him. So keeping those thoughts in your mind...

I'd try to shop him for a first and see what we get. I think there are teams that'd be willing to part with at least a 1. I think we may be able to get a 1 and a 4 for him. If we can get that, we should take it.

Wouldn't trade him. Making an elite group (WR) average for the sake of making a poor group (i.e. DB) also average makes you a much worse team. They'll be able to afford him anyway, after '21.

The only thing I'd consider right now is trading Amari and then drafting a WR at 10.

Well, I'll counter this way. We got Gallup as a 3rd round choice, and he's looked like a 1st rounder. There are several good WRs in this draft. I think if we managed to, say, get a 1 and a 4 for Gallup, we could use the 2 firsts on the best possible defencive players, and use the 4th rounder to take a WR. For example, Warren Stewart from Colorado State would be an excellent 4th round choice.

This will be a bad Year to trade vets.
Lots of teams will be looking to clear cap space by cutting or trading players.
Good year to be buyers, bargains will be available, elite players will always have value, but non-elite vets in the final year of rookie deals won't fetch a high price.
I think We'll be better off letting Him play out His contract, if He signs elsewhere in FA in 2022 so be it, maybe it will net a comp pick.

You always want to try and improve your team. But replacing a highly productive player just in the hopes you can get a HOF player is too much of a risk.

At some point you have to set up a team and let them play together to be most effective.

Some folks here would have traded Emmitt or Irvin or Aikman after the 1991 season to try and get "better" players. But the history shows that would have been the wrong move.

I agree, there's a difference between trying to make your team better and roster churning...

A poster once said the Parcells philosophy was basically to keep drafting at your strengths so that teams always have to game plan your strengths instead of switching over to weaknesses during injuries.
