That is cold but I lived in upstate NY and went skiing once when the windchill temp on top of the mountain was -60 degrees below zero. I have no idea what I was I thinking but there was no body on the mountain. The college I went to; there was one day where it was -38 degrees below zero without the windchill factor.

It ought to make for an interesting game; that's for sure. I remember playing in cold temperatures in high school living in upstate NY in the Adirondacks...might have gotten down to 15-20 degrees...I can't imagine playing in negative temperatures.

Temperatures supposedly will hit -18 with a windchill of more than (or is it less than?) -30.

Absolutely brutal conditions.

Can imagine if the Superbowl ends up being played in conditions like that?

Nothing would make me more happy than to have crappy weather at the Mara's Superbowl

I think it would be fantastic, especially if it turned out to be an awful game. Then maybe the league would figure out it shouldn't cave in to Mara.

What was the coldest game you ever been to? Maybe this should be a separate thread.

I was at a game in Cincinnati, the old Riverfront Stadium. Can't remember the year, maybe my brain was frozen, around 1980, they played the Houston Oilers.
5 to 10 degrees, not sure what wind chill factor was, but I don't remember a lot of wind inside the stadium. It was more outside. But we also was sitting in lower level. As that stadium could get cold winds at top, coming off the river.

I remember we went to opening day every year for the Reds from early 70's to like 78. Early April, sitting near the top and winds coming off the river. It could be pretty cold then.

I do remember if I got a cup of coffee it was almost cold by the time I got back to my seat.

I think the mountain was Gore and the college was St. Lawrence

National Weather Service just updated the projection for the GB-SF game to have a -40 to -55 windchill. From the report:

40 to 55 below zero Sunday night through Tuesday morning.Other impacts: exposed skin could freeze within 5 to 10 minutes.

It's starting to look like this game might push as the coldest in NFL history.

I wonder if penguins and leopard seals will buy out the remaining seats. There may even be a walrus sighting.................

Insane to even think about playing in that kind of weather. But then again, I'm a Texan.

As I mentioned above, I'm a Texan so I don't have experience in extreme cold... but is that even safe to play in?

I know several Cowboys in the Ice Bowl got frostbite and said they felt it the rest of their lives.

Of course the equipment is a lot better today... Plus back then it surprised them so much they weren't really prepared for it.

Another thing, I remember reading that in the Ice Bowl the officials couldn't even use their whistles. They just yelled out to the players when to stop and start play. I would assume they have some kind of composite whistle now that won't freeze to their lips?

I think generally no. That national weather service blurb said "exposed skin could freeze within 5 to 10 minutes.".

There should be decent sideline heaters, etc, however, I would think many of the players are going to look very sluggish under multiple layers of clothing.

Is it even safe to excrete the whiskey that will be needed?

Maybe this guy will be in attendance filming a new episode..................
