You mean like when Al hired QB Coach Jon Gruden away form the Eagles? Despite all the draft picks they got from the Bucs for him they sure do miss him don't they?

As much it's possible to miss a guy thats been 10 games under .500 the last 4 years, I suppose so.

That could indeed be alot when you been about 30 under yourself over that time. ;)

Did Gruden only have 2 years total coaching experience at the time?

Did Gruden have 13 years exp in the NFL as a player/coach?

:)

At least Jerry isn't totally insane to hire him as HC.

He may be a great OC, but now we do know that JJ is hiring assistant(s) prior to the HC, fwiw.

I absolutely do not understand the failure to at least interview Rex Ryan.

How do you know they havent set an interview date up?

The Cowboys have hired Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach Jason Garrett as their offensive coordinator, and he remains a candidate for Dallas' vacant head coaching position, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports.

A source told ESPN's Ed Werder on Wednesday night that team owner Jerry Jones considers Garrett, a former backup to quarterback Troy Aikman, to be one of the most promising offensive coaches in the league and was so determined to bring him back to the Cowboys organization that he would have been added to Parcells' staff had Parcells decided to coach the final year of his contract.

Instead, Parcells stepped down Monday after four seasons with the Cowboys, ending a 19-year coaching tenure that included two Super Bowl champoinships with the New York Giants.

Jones needed to decide by Thursday whether to hire Garrett as offensive coordinator because the Miami Dolphins set a deadline for the Cowboys to hire their quarterbacks coach when granting the Cowboys permission to interview Garrett.

It's now up to the Cowboys whether to appoint Garrett as the head coach later after interviews with other head coach candidates, primarily San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Wade Phillips or San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

Garrett spent the last two seasons coaching Miami's quarterbacks. He played for the Cowboys from 1993-99, appearing in 23 games with nine starts. He also played for the Giants, Tampa Bay and Miami. Garrett retired in 2004.

Garrett's father, Jim, was a longtime scout for the Cowboys.

Was Garrett a player/coach for 13 years? I must've missed that. All those years in Dallas I thought he was just a backup QB, didn't know he was on staff.

Might not have been on the "staff"...but plenty of players and coaches both felt that he was just like a coach back then.

I don't. Like everyone else here on this board, I only know what I read. It just seems like things are moving fast now and Wade Phillips as the next head man in Dallas is imminent.

Of course, Jerry could have a whole list of interviews set up, culminating with Rivera 11 days from now.

He has 13 years exp as a player (SLASH) coach .... sorry if the / confused you ....

Troy Aikman said he knew everything about the offense even then .... seems to me that you will not be satisfied about anything Jerry does .....

Have fun with all that misery.

Um. This was reported last night. Why is this breaking news.

Garret is the OC and is still being considered for HC. Isn't that what was reported last night?

Not to my knowledge. As of this morning, it was being reported that Garrett had his second interview and that he was the top candidate for HC. Big difference between HC and OC as well as Top Candidate and hired.

He was just officially signed, that was all speculation last night.

Now its official he is at least the OC.

Mickey is coming up on the ticket in about 30 seconds so we will know what else is going on.

Did Mickey say anything?

Kinda what I was wondering.

You know, it sure is funny how this effects my work. I mean, I honestly don't feel like I've done anything this past week at the office except click refresh to see if anything new is going on.
