Garret, Hutchinson, Carter, Henson, Leaf, Wright and now Romo.

Romo's play is encouraging.

But you're absolutely right.

The waiver wires are full of one game wonders.

I remember Carter looking like the answer vs the Giants on a Monday Night in 2003.

I remember Hutchinson looking like the answer in 2002 against the Jags when he threw for 301 yards.

Gary Hogeboom passed for over 340 yards in his debut as a starter.

What will Romo be?

Who knows?

He could be the next great.....He could be the next never will be....Heck, I'd just settle for the next solid starter.

But I'm encouraged.

I agree that we could be overly excited about Romo (myself VERY much included) but seriously he looked better than over half of the NFL starting QBs yesterday and he was playing a pretty good defense.
I'm sure he'll have a rough game or two at least but I haven't been as excited about watching us since the triplet days. Romo is exciting to watch.

Please there is no comparison between Stoerner/Garrett and Romo.

I didn't think Romo could do it last night but he showed poise, no quit and was not flustered when down 14. He had the poise of a seasoned veteran. Now will that carry over to next week, only time will tell.

What makes us believe that this will be any different?

You're right. We don't know. That's what makes it so fun. He could be much worse or much better than Jason Garrett. The journey of discovery begins. Unlike Hutch and Henson, Romo was a full-time football player who was not rushed into the job. That could serve him well.

A list of QBs who were either thrown in the fire or way past their prime.
Romo has been groomed for the job, maybe longer than even necessary according to some.

I remember Chad Hutchinson could throw a real nice ball in training camp, but his real problem was a case of fumblitis. Every time you would touch the guy he fumbled. Anyways I think it is destiny that Romo is the 9th starting quarterback since Troy Aikman and he wears number 9. Maybe I'm superstitous, but hey its about time. Looks like other teams have found their quarterbacks of the future like Leinart in Arizona/ Brees in New Orleans, so other than the Bills & Lions(who tend to ruin every quarterback they touch), we're the only other team that needs stability at the position.

WOW I didn't remember that! I was about to say Romo's was the best cowboy qb debut I could remember which gave me hope, but you just put the fear of God right back in me...

Career Notes | Agility | High School | Personal | Stats
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has broad shoulders, quick feet and deceptive speed … Very effective at reading defenses to deliver the underneath passes … Able to go through progression and has the quick release needed to get the ball off when pressured … Has above-average arm strength, especially when throwing from the inside hash … Has good touch on his short tosses and can lay the ball up for receivers running down the sidelines … Shows very good poise and is known as a vocal leader … Gets good movement rolling around the pocket with a keen sense for the pass rush … Effective scrambler who can make defenders miss when he decides to run … Quick thinker who communicates well with his teammates and coaches (coaches call him a student of the game) … Appears to be able to throw the ball better on the move rather than standing in the pocket.

Negatives: Lacks ideal foot speed, but manages to elude and get the ball off (rarely gets sacked) … Operates out of the shotgun, showing just adequate drop in his pass set when operating under center … Forces his vertical tosses and is more effective working the short and medium passing game … Needs to show better arm strength on his long balls as he tends to over-shoot … Will stand flat-footed at times, resulting in throwing off balance, causing the ball to sail.

Looking at his draft bio, it's obvious he has some skills and physical tools to succeed as an NFL QB. Playing in an I-AA division school, he definately needed some extended coaching and experience. Hopefully he got that past 3 1/2 years.

What ever happened to Garret, I personally don’t know but the fact is that he is not a starting QB to date.

Slam dunk. Can't argue with that logic.

I think this may be the case even more than I would like to believe. I'm sure I'll get stoned for this, but I honestly believe Parcells felt like Quincy was his answer. I think he actually believed Quincy would be a solid starter in this league. I think you're right in that the drug issue killed his career not so much his game. Now having said that I was not a Carter fan. I don't believe and this is just my uneducated opinion Romo is in the Troy Aikman mold we grew acustom to around here. He is more of a Pennington/Delhhome type QB. But here's to hoping he's the next Brady

You're probably right, but even if he's in the Delhomme/Pennington mold, with our weapons, we should be able to have some success. And if the kid has ice in his veins, we can win some big games with him.

You're absolutely right, Parcells did believe that Carter was the answer. Jerry just pretended to be behind Carter. Jerry could have nixed the idea of bringing in Henson. He was the one who brought in Hutch. He was the one who kept trying to bring in a Aikman-like franschise qb instead of just giving
Carter his 2-3 years the way that Holmgren gave Hassellbeck. I like Romo, but he is not in the same league as guys like Carter and Brees. There's a reason he went to Eastern Illinois and they went to Georgia and Purdue.

I don't know if Parcells thought Carter was the answer (I doubt he did) but he sure was given chances. I don't understand your point about being in the same league as Brees and better than Romo. I want some of what you've been drinking.

Well, I was watching NFL network all night yesterday, and I was surprised that they made no in-depth analisis about Romos performance on SNF. Either we cowboys fans are all over our team or the media does not care. All they were talking was about the Colts vs Broncos and Colts vs Patriots.. well I guess it is logical since those are the top notch teams nowadays.

But still. I sense something in Romo, he seems to have personality, and he seems to be taking things with measure. Lets just hope it is not a one hit wonder.

Once Romo can start putting games together he will get the national attention.

The good thing about all this is that he will be facing 2 more road games which, like it or not, will be good for him since he will face more adversity, and more hostility from the crowd. That will either lead him to develop character or to go down.

Now, I dont think Arizona and the Commanders represent super tough challenges, since both teams have loosing records. If the cowboys endup 3-0 on from that road trip, they will come with a good attitude to face the REAL test which is named Colts. That is where we will see what Romo is all about
