Partly right? Win then losing season?

Last season 13-3 this season 9-7........ How is 7 and 3 losses greater then 9 and 13 wins. That was back to back by the way

I was stretching obviously. My point is we'll make the playoffs one year then turn around and get knocked out the following... There is no consistency....

Some people might interpret a "winning" season as in making the playoffs....Maybe they should just say back to back playoff appearances.

In reality, 9-7 is worse than 8-8...

1. Neither makes you feel great.
2. Neither got you into the playoffs.
3. 9-7 gives you a worse draft position.

Stuck in mediocrity.

This is a feeling I don't share and I'd be interested to know why you feel this way?...

We've got issues, but I still think the personnel on offense is pretty much in place. Significant but do-able changes are necessary, but it amounts to upgrading OT3 and adding a WR who can stretch defenses in a WR-deep draft. I'd add a vet QB if the right one is available, and maybe a change-of-pace RB, but--except for the OT--it's all stuff I'm confident the team can easily do in an offseason.

The defense is where I've wanted talent added for *years.* We finally started that process last year, and did a good job infusing some talent. It's where I think we're going to spend most of our resources this offseason. We've got extra picks, and should have a bit of cap room if we want to target anyone in VFA. We need to add a DT, a S, and another ILB, on top of singing Lawrence and Hitchens in my book. Both the DT and the S need to be impact players, if at all possible. At DT, Collins gives us the luxury of signing either a 1-tech or a 3-tech. There are a handful of quality veteran 1-techs available if we want to go that route. Or there will be a DT at #19 there for us in the draft. S is the position I worry about being able to fill. Vaccaro probably won't hit the market. Morgan Burnett? I don't know what GB intends to do with him or if he's still the player he was a couple seasons ago. Eric Reid, maybe? Anyway, S is the tough one. ILB we ought to be able to fill with a couple of draft picks, especially since we'll be adding mid-round LBs for STs and to replace Wllber and Durant who we're going to lose.

The coaches, I like the current staff, so it's not surprising we see them differently, but I don't consider coaching to be a negative in Dallas. I like both the Richard and the Lal hires. I don't like promoting Moore straight to QBs, but at the end of the day, it's not a huge issue for me.

Finally, I expect a lot less distraction all around this season. Between the trumped up suspension that dragged out from camp through week 13, the stories of Jerry suing the Commissioner and other owners, the anthem stuff that Jerry was in the middle of, and some of the hints of dysfunction on the offensive coaching staff we hears stirrings about, things were just...messy. Despite all that, we still managed 9-7, have a handful of bonus draft picks and a bit of cap room. We aren't aware of any suspensions looming, yet, and we don't have significant offseason surgeries to worry about. It should be a healthy and fairly-competitive team we start out with in camp. We're not in the shape PHI will probably be in, but we could be close, and we should be their primary competition for the East again next season.

I thought they were in place heading into 2017, but they proved otherwise to me. Specifically, what they showed me is that if one of the cogs is pulled out, the entire machine falls apart. It was one thing when it was the franchise quarterback in Romo, that can happen to anybody.

But they showed me that it's the WLB, and left tackle, and running back, and who knows what else? If things aren't just right, this scheme fails to adjust. At all.

I'd like another receiver too, but I think they'd get more bang for their buck if they went OLT or dominant nose tackle in that first round (but it sounds like our personal lists of draft needs line up for the most part).

I keep wondering about Earl Thomas' situation in Seattle. I'd love to see him shake loose somehow. As for the DT? Again, I see the draft rather than anything in free agency. But I agree an improvement is long overdue. Don't care much about Hitchens as I think someone will overpay and I hope it's not us. He'd be #4 on my keeper list, after Lawrence, Irving, and Cooper.

Completely disagree.

I like both hires too, I'm just not sure how much they can ove come my dislikes at higher positions on the chain.

I just hope that they continue to learn from past mistakes, but recent comments don't give me much faith in it. Talk of "managing" Tyron Smith is downright scary. And moves like making the totally inexperienced Kellen Moore their quarterback coach and then citing Garrett as an example only reinforce those beliefs.

I'm seeing too many one step forward two steps back.

Our best hope is that Stephen can convince Jerry to apply the Dilbert Principle and "promote" Garret to the FO in order to get him out of the way................. maybe he could be a greeter at the Stadium and slap some butt in the parking lot.

I sure hope that's the case. I mean there sure should be some form of accountability, right?

Isn't winning the bottom line and most important goal of any sports team?

Let's ask General-Manager-For-Life Jerry Jones if there's accountability for winning in the Dallas Cowboys organization.

Someone already did. I think he covers the NBA now. Funny how that worked out, huh?

Shades of Al Davis. No matter how many years of mediocrity take place he can - and will - always point back to those dusty SB trophies.

"I know it's been 40 years since we reached a Super Bowl, but I've done it three times and am still the best man for the job." - 93 year old Jerry Jones.

During Jerry’s media session at the Senior Bowl he was asked if the Cowboys have to make the playoffs next year for Garrett to keep his job and he said no.

With all of the coaching firings and hirings, it sure seems to me, that this really could be Garrett's last season as HC. I was actually surprised Jerry kept both Linehan and Miranelli and not fire at least one of them. So unless Garrett makes a deep playoff run, I suspect Jerry will move on from JG.
Linehan and Marinelli were kept as available scapegoats for 2018. Garrett is family and not going anywhere but up the organization.
