Garrett building the offense?

While I was watching the NFL replay of the 52 -7 slaughter of the skins on NFLN. Aikman was talking about how Garrett had told him that Welker was his favorite player in Miami the season before he came here and Welker left for the Pats. Hopefully Garrett found his Welker in Amendola who has similiar skills that hopefully transition into the pro game.

Also the release of Fasano right before the draft. If we had gotten a blocking TE later in the draft I would have been happy with Witten and Curtis. Instead they go after a potential play making TE early in the draft and it seems Garrett was really high on him.

Everyone talks about how Jerry has the most say in the draft but I feel Garrett has a large say in acquisitions his side of the ball. I am very anxious to see this offense in its second year under Garrett with some of Parcells pieces removed and some of his added. Im gonna go get my popcorn ready!

My problem is that Garrett will get a great coaching job after this season. Then we start over.

Jerry is a much wiser owner. I'm sure he has a lot of faith in Garrett and I firmly believe it's a consensus on draft day. I can't wait to see next's season's O either. It has the potential to be a thing of beauty.

I also can't wait to see the tag put on it once it's successful. i.e "west coast offense" "run and gun" etc. :)

I think he's here to stay.

It's just your typical "getting the players that the O-Coordinator wants" type of deal. Garrett's offense isn't that much different from Parcells' and I think the offense has already been built, Garrett added tweaks to it last season scheme wise (more deep throws, sending Witten deeper more often, moving Owens around, etc) and now he's tweaking some of the personnel by getting rid of Fasano for Bennett, Felix for Julius, and perhaps Amendola getting time in the slot.

If Garrett was truly building the offense, then I think we'd see a much bigger overhaul of the roster along with things like changing blocking schemes and overall philosophies.

Me too. As far as open jobs go, the Baltimore job is a pretty good one with pretty good pay and a team that generally does well with getting players in both FA and the draft. Yet he turned it down. It's unlikely he'll find another open job that's as good as that (sans him taking over for Wade).

I dont see why after he declined to even consider 2 coaching jobs.

does he really want to go to Cincinnati or chicago?

Lets not go crazy over Amendola. Let him make the team first.

I think it would be foolish to think that Garrett doesn't have a huge voice in this franchise. He's clearly got Jerry's ear. To Red's credit, I don't think he abuses that at all, but a lot of this is his baby. Anyone can see that...

And I don't mean that as a slap at Wade, which I think is unfair to do. I think Wade is comfortable enough in his own skin to let Garrett do what he does best.

I think Garrett is looking to put together an offense that is some sort of a meld between the Zampese/Turner/Coryell roots and Sean Payton's multiple formation looks at New Orleans.

He will stress a power running game, vertical passing game, use of TEs and the ability to run multiple formations with the same group of players on the field to create mismatches.

Why do people assume that he is going to leave? If it really came down to it, I would just guess that Wade would be on the outs.

If we won the super bowl this year, Wade would stay put for sure and Garret would get to pick from any Head Coaching job he wanted.

Another first round exit, however, and things change.

My guess is there is a golden handshake to give Garrrett the job in maybe 2-3 years when Wade is ready to retire. Jerry will pay whatever it takes to keep him. The only big risk is if the Coughlin retires and Giants gig is available. However, I think Spagnolo (sp?) would have the inside track on that one now.

Just a matter of time.

Knowing Jerra's penchant for doing the right thing, Wade will be kicked up to the front office and get out of Garrett's way.

You absolutely have to read into his one-year extension. That wasn't an accident... he didn't slip and fall into that thing. He's got ties here, he likes it here and he's obviously settling in.

I know this is coming from a guy that wants to see JG here, so maybe I'm not an authority, but if we don't win a playoff game this year, or at the very least make a good show of making the Super Bowl, I gotta believe Wade is getting the can if Garrett is drawing interest, as I'm sure he will.

First-year coordinators like the Red Monster don't just get straight-up coaching offers and turn them down. Look through the history pages and they'll bare that out. You get a shot at the Ravens after your first year of being a coordinator -- which is a great organization run by some quality people, maybe the best bosses to have in the biz -- and turn it down to stay a coordinator? That tells me something. Tells me a lot, actually.

See, I feel the the only way that Wade stays is if Dallas advances in the playoffs and then falters. A superbowl win and I think Jerry will ask Wade to ride off into the sunset a winner and on top of the world. It would almost be too perfect, he could sit out a year and then come back to take over for another up-and-coming team. He would be able to sign for a contract that would be a lot longer and make more money than if he played out that last year on his deal.

Obviously, if he can't get the team past a the 1st playoff game or to the playoffs, hes gone with a walk of shame.

In the event that Jerry had to pick between the two, I see Jerry choosing Garrett because this team right now revolves around Tony Romo more than any other player. If Tony succeeds, Dallas succeeds.

Whatever happens, I do no see any situation that Jason Garrett leaves Dallas. He will NOT, absolutely WILL NOT find a better situation to be in. He has a young talented team and an owner who does whatever it takes to win. Most importantly, he has a Franchise QB who is top 5 at his position. Typically, teams with franchise top 5 QBs don't have head coaching openings because those teams are winning so the odds of him finding a better QB to guide are slim-to-none.

Maybe its just me but I can't see him leaving. I said it before he signed his extension and I'll say it again. If he is as smart as everyone gives him credit for, he wont even think about leaving.

I think Jason Garrett is a very, very smart cookie. He has long-standing ties to the Cowboys going back to the 90s SB years w/2 SB rings to bind him. Obviously he has a very close relationship with Jerry & feels very confident in it.

What we don't know is whether Garrett is so anxious to move up to a head coaching job that he leaves as soon as the situation he wants opens up...

OR, does he really like it in Dallas, will be patient for a little while (maybe he and Jerry already have a handshake deal in place) so he can take over as the head coach of one of the most premier football franchises in the NFL.

He's already an Asst head coach in only his 2nd year as the OC where he essentially has total control over the offense including adding the players he wants to play in the system he wants. He also now has the opportunity to study the defensive side of the ball & become familiar with those players so he'll be very conversant with the entire team when he takes over. He probably also realizes he'll have more control/influence with Jerry then he will ever have as head coach for another team whose already got a GM/owner in place that he doesn't know/might not really trust/might not be prepared to do what the necessary to put a legit SB contender on the field every year.

Also of significant importance, he's already got a lot of the pieces in place to become a SB winning offense. I also believe Romo is a big factor in Garrett's decision. He's already shown he wants to run an attacking offense which fits Romo to a tee. Romo will always look downfield for the big gain/play before he goes to the short or medium play. That allows the Cowboys to make maximum use of TO, Witten & all the other weapons--something Bledsoe couldn't do because he lacked mobility (so he couldn't buy time for his WRs to get open) combined with the fact he was an indecisive decision-maker/held on to the ball too long. Garrett is developing Romo into an elite franchise QB who more then capable of winning multiple SBs once Garrett/Jerry have the right pieces in play which include a strong running game but RBs who also good receivers out of the backfield particularly the speedy Felix Jones.

We were all very disappointed losing the playoff game to the Giants. But in reality remember our ST weren't very good, our defense wasn't as good as we hoped & our rushing game was lacking because Julius wasn't the player we needed & our OL wasn't very good in run blocking. The saying has always been that you gotta be very good in 2 out of 3 areas on your team if you want to win in the playoffs/SB & we didn't do that last year. We've added several offensive weapons in the draft & maybe 1-2 undrafted players also make the team. We didn't pick up the WR we needed but adding Felix, Bennet, Choice along with Pacman (if he reinstated) could make our offense even more prolific then last year & that's downright scary.

BTW: I'm not worried about Jason Garret leaving. I'm beginning to think Jerry & Garrett's intention is that Garrett will be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for many, many years.
