Garrett says Romo has a lot of football left in him

I thought the offensive line the Cowboys have put together would allow Romo to play out his contract. Turns out I must know very little about football.

Not to worry, that is wide spread amongst Cowboy faithful.

Nothing about Romo's outlook should change based on what happened this year. If you thought he had X years left before the season, now he has X - 1. For all of the hubbub about his chronic back condition, he has missed exactly one game because of it. Every other injury he has suffered would have knocked any other quarterback out as well, regardless of their age or condition.

I don't believe this. I saw Eli and Osweiler both get tackled in a similar fashion and get up unscathed..

I see nothing wrong with Garrett speaking his mind on the topic. I just hope the Joneses are listening and make sure their isn't a lot of Garrett or Romo left in Cowboys football. Maybe we can swap that pair for Sean Payton and Drew Brees.

Why would we swap Romo for brees when he is even older than Romo?

If you take every QB whose ever played for the Cowboys, including Saint Roger of Bestever, and added up all the championships, they still don't have as many as Troy Aikman.

The man brought more hardware here than anyone.

Very well put. In terms of toughness, Aikman was in a class of his own, too. The beatings this guy took week in, week out was amazing. If he played in today's NFL, he'd have suited up a lot less with the new concussion protocol, that's for sure.

Except Eli and Osweiler didn't break their collarbone 60-something days prior to taking those hits. It was just a freak tackle at just the right spot. If Dallas had a running play called on that particular down, Romo would still be okay and still healing even more.

Also, Romo took a huge beating against Miami a week ago and the collarbone held up.

He is more accurate and has a collarbone that doesn't crack every time someone sneezes in his direction. Turns out that is kind of important for a NFL QB.

A doctor on WFAN yesterday said "When that happens to the same area of a bone three times it becomes like rock candy"

Right...they never broke it in the first place because they are not as fragile....

It was a freak tackle in the right spot just like the Eagles game in Week 2 and Giants game in 2010....In my opinion, it's a normal tackle that most QBs should be able to take.

He just finished maybe his best season in 2014. Just because he broke his collarbone this year doesn't all of a sudden mean he's through.
It is finally time for the team should be looking for his replacement though. Father time waits for no one.

I wish someone would tell Tom Brady this. This guy is 38 and doesn't seem to be slowing down at all.
I could see him playing another 4 years if he wants to.

Not all QBs are built alike unfortunately.

Brady seems to be more in the Favre / Eli Manning camp in terms of durability. He hasn't missed a game due to injury since he turned 30 (7 years).

Romo on the other hand has missed games 4 out of the last 6 seasons due to 4 distinct injuries (collarbone in 2010, Back in 2013, different back injury in 2014, collarbone again in 2015).

Yea, the guy played in 4 games and was injured in 3 of them, that should turn out better at age 36.

That's because Brady gets the ball out quick. That way there is less chance a 280+ pound defensive end comes barreling into him at full speed. Our idiot coaching staff led by the red headed clown himself doesn't understand that. Some give them an injury excuse. How many times do they keep doing that until it is realized that maybe it's the coaching that is helping cause all the injuries? Three and outs on offense due long developing plays with a higher probability of injuries, lead to tired defenses, which also lead to injuries. No it's not just bad luck. This is not a "bad luck Brian" meme.

My worries go beyond just the shoulder.

The shoulder will heal.

My bigger concern is that Romo seems decreasingly resistant to injuries in general. He is getting to a point in his career where everybody holds his breath after ever big hit.

It's not just a big hit, all they have to do is land on top of him. I'm not sure how he hurt his back in the first game, but he clearly was not throwing the same in the eagles game before the collar bone, and that was with a pain shot after the giants.

The Cowboys will spin that he's got years left, because, lets face it, with that contract, they have too. While the collar bone will heal, it will still be weaker going forward, and that horrible. I think Cassel will show in the coming weeks he'll will be a more than capable back-up and if we draft a blue chip guy this year, Tony can attempt to play another year or two as we'll be prepared.

But there is little chance of Tony ever finishing a season without missing significant time. I have no problem with Tony staying on, as long as we move forward at the position.

I will repeat....I don't want to bring in a QB that will be subjected to Jason or his offense. So we are in a real pickle here. Jason has not developed a QB since he has been here. Jason has not developed a backup since he has been here. Jason drafted McGee and he was a complete ZERO. I don't trust Jason with a rookie QB.
