Garrett and Brown were kinda celebrating already. That means Zeke? Rams didn't even pick yet.

He'll be good. Still a stupid and inconsistent move. I've become resigned to this sort of management.

They just are haphazard in how they do things. Johnson had a clear vision and we won. Since then it's just been randomness from Jones.

Taking a TB at 4 is just continuance of that.

Can't win with a crap defense. You guys overrate the ability of Elliott to somehow cover for this defense.

The 2016 Defense will be better than the 2014 Defense that went 12-4. The game plan will be the same as 2014, control the clock by running the ball down everyone's throat.

I would have gone Trade Down or Ramsey, but I get the logic of the Elliot pick.

I like Zeke a lot and look forward to watching him, but this really just feels like a knee-jerk pick.

Exactly. It's a series of moves not connected to one another. No plan. No direction.

A year ago they didn't value backs. Any back could run behind this line. Now your big FA splash and the 4th pick in the draft (who will be paid a nice buck) are RBs.

Organizational philosophy? They don't so much as have a clue what the concept is let alone having one.

Garrett and Jones wanting Elliott tells me we are making a mistake.

Gary Brown said ALL the coaches were on board for ZEKE!

The narrative is changing on RB's and the trend started in college. Successful programs have gone back to single back systems instead of RBBC. It was the talk of the Combine and Owners Meetings. I kept intimating it but people chose to hang on to a preconceived notion. The front office didn't re-sign Murray due to injury history, mileage after career year and age. The price was also in consideration as it should have been taking those factors into account. The front office realized they made a mistake devaluing the position and corrected it with a young stud back. Kudos. Gary Brown's quote says it all:

“When you have talented runners, you take them where you need to take them,” Brown said. “The running backs are making a comeback.

“They get devalued when you don't have one. That devalue thing is overblown.”

Just because they took a first-round running back this year doesn't mean they are going against their own beliefs. They let Murray go last year and saw how much it affected the team, so this may actually be a smart move based on their experience of a year ago. Elliott is a more complete back than Murray ever was.

The more I think about it, the more I agree with you. He'll be VERY good for a year or two but in the long run he won't come CLOSE to holding up because he loves to party....A LOT

Oh it was but it's over and done so lets just have some fun with it.

5 years from now we'll probably be wishing we had Ramsey though haha. CJ Prosise or Derrick Henry will be producing at a similar level and our secondary will still be letting teams chip away at us.

Except can you really tell how not having Murray affected the team when you didn't have Romo and Bryant wasn't healthy all year?

Don't get me wrong, Elliott is a fine player. And I suspect he'll do very well behind this OL. But I think the Cowboys just missed real value here given they probably didn't need a TB at 4 to have a great running game. As I said in a different thread, I am not disappointed nor am I really excited. Indifference is where I am at.

5 years from now we'll be letting Elliott walk in FA. Because if he's good for 5 years, his next contract is going to dwarf what is already a Top 10 contract for TBs in the NFL.

If he brings a title to Dallas then it was worth it. If not then we made a mistake unless Ramsey is not a good player.

Should have traded back and not worried about making sure we could still get Elliott would have been the wise move IMO. Oh well. At least we didn't do something really stupid like trade back into Rd 1 for Cook.

I do think they valued backs a year ago. Jerry openly dangled his first round pick this year for AD and we invited virtually every back in for a visit. Picking 27th is the reason we didn't get our back last year, not organizational neglect. If Gregory didn't fall in our lap in the second, that pick is likely a back IMO.
