Gehlken: There is a high likelihood that Kelvin Joseph and Jabril Cox will be traded by or waived

Cox just never seems to have had the light come on....just kind of runs around willy nilly. There will certainly be a LB cut that is better than he is. And the likelihood is one of our S could take his place and do a better job.

Joseph has played better but lining up offsides? Just seems to be a mental midget. I think the status of Lewis probably has a big impact on whether he stays or goes. Who is more valuable right now, Joseph or Scott? I know Scott flashed a bit early, but seems like fewer and fewer mentions of him as camp has gone on. Is a former 2nd rounder more valuable than a current 6th rounder that you used extra picks to get? And Nashon Wright is part of that picture too....at times he looked good in camp, but this high ankle sprain has shut him down. After the top 4 corners it is anybody's guess IMO.
Good and accurate summary.

LMAO, oh we lost on a 4th round pick, dang I'm glad we did give that pick away. I'd hate to lose a cut-player pick.

LMAO......... "I hate we picked a loser in the 4th round, but I'm glad we didn't trade the pick"

I don’t understand cutting Joseph.

The guy can play and is extremely talented.

He’s finally turning the corner and you want to cut him? I don’t get it.

With Joseph, we have a lot of CBS and we’re gonna have to cut one. I thought he had a real chance to supplant CJ Goodwin on special team, which would lock up his roster spot. With that not happening, he’s the obvious one to go. Diggs, Gilmore and Bland are your top 3. They traded future draft capital for Scott and as mentioned, Goodwin was the special teams ace. That left at best one spot for Joseph and Wright to compete for.

Moving on from Cox is disappointing given the injuries and lack of depth there. Parsons, Vander Esch and Clark are solid. Really wanted to see Overshown, but we’ll have to wait until next year. But we really don’t have much behind those three. Given most defensive calls will have two LBers, having three isn’t the end of the world. Malik Jefferson is a jag...I’m okay with him being a 5th LB. And if the team wants to develop Harper that’s fine. It I think we need a 4th guy who can step in and play if there’s an injury

I wonder if this is solid info. I can see Cox not being on the team, but Joseph is more difficult to see happening. Although, I don't care if either stays or goes.

I think they keep both. Linebacker depth and Joseph actually had a really good preseason besides the offsides penalty
I agree, I don’t see enough depth at those positions to cut them. Both are at least decent right now finally. Going younger right now isn’t what I’d do as we are geared to win now.

It is just depth. I don't have a problem keeping him, but how many corners are we gonna keep? Five? Six? They were really high on Scott, so maybe he has an edge due to being a recent draftee. The one thing that does help Joseph is that he has become a special teams demon. We normally always keep Goodwin as our special teams ace but would have no problems with Joseph being that guy. And he can play a position, whereas Goodwin is a liability anywhere but special teams.

We are really bad at picking second rounders
Agree--- and everyone keeps saying how better the Cowboys are doing with their draft picks. I say, it is average at best. When a team relies heavy on filling holes, with their roster, because they are not into free agency, the draft is more important. And you see why the Cowboys have not seen a NFC Finals in THREE DECADES

Behind Bland depth wise if you give up on Joseph who’s next on this depth chart to fill the gap ? Joseph makes the squad if for no other reason then a dime back and ST .

The Overshown and Jefferson pre season injuries to me almost make Jabril Cox & Harper depth .

Joseph is surprising if they really are considering cutting him. Gehlken has been the most reliable Cowboys source since Garrett left, so I definitely see this as real

A Joseph cut would be a little surprising as I thought he's been playing better in the preseason games. However, we don't see what happens every day in practice.

It was interesting Wright didnt play while Joseph did. I assumed Joseph would have been ahead of Wright but who knows.
This is so true, for all the players. The number of snaps we see in pre-season is a tiny sample size compared to practices. There's also the "classroom". The coaches work with these players daily, and have a good handle on the player's ability to learn and understand.

I'm not sure if Cox was just a bust or the knee injury robbed him of his career. What a disappointment either way.

I would keep Joseph.
I loved Cox coming out but he hasn’t been the same guy I watched in college
Depth may save him but neither of these two guys have shown enough to even trade

I suspect that they don't need him. They have other talented players that they can add to the roster.

Cox just doesn't look physical enough to be a linebacker in the NFL right now. I do think we should keep him just because we are paper thin at the position. If Overshown didn't get hurt I would of been like Cox who? Overshown looks way better than Cox at linebacker. Cox rookie season I though maybe he would turn into a player but he just doesn't look physical enough right now especially in the run game. He almost look and play the same as he did as a rookie. I was expecting him to be better.

I will be surprised if they cut or trade both of these guys. I think both are good enough backups and its not like they are making a lot of money. But KJ is a 3rd string slot corner so I can see where they may want a younger guy to develop in that position. It all depends on Lewis. Is he really ready to play?

As for Cox, he has been just okay since his injury. It is a shame really because he looked like he was going to be pretty good before the injury.

I will say this, the Cowboys have some tough cuts to get down to 53. Some good players are going to on the street.
