General consensus on Rob Ryan

He's a slob...that's what I think. It's just overall pathetic to be gluttonous enough to let yourself get like that.

But if he improves our defense I don't really care. I don't know the guy but the OP asked what we thought. LOL

I think he needs to keep his mouth shut. Nothing was worse than hearing him talk about Calvin Johnson last year before we played the Lions. The whole Ryan family is a gimmick. How many Super Bowls did Buddy Ryan win?

He proved he was an over rated DC last year. Half of the time our defense looked like they were lost and had no idea where to line up and what to do. I don't care how complex people say his defense is. It was painful watching that last season. Adjustments should have been made.

On a more positive note I do like that he seems to be the quietest of the three. I also think he has the potential to be neither underrated nor overrated as a DC. Making him one of the best in the league.

I like him. I really do.

I can't blame him for only having one ILB last year, and that one only had one arm to tackle with most of the season.

I also can't blame him for a banged up secondary all year, and one of those that gained 5 yrs in age almost over night.

He's a positive guy and I like that about him. The D might not be all world, but he appears to coach them up like they are. That goes a long ways.

Now if we don't go all in on defense in this draft I will be totally disgusted and feel sorry for him.

Does adding 1 good player in Carr and a scrub like Pool really improve our secondary that much? Scandrick is still going to get a lot of playing time, which concerns me.

well there are still a bunch of unknowns: the progression of Bruce Carter, what we will do in the draft, what impact does Dan Connor have, etc.

if Carr is worth every bit of the money Jerry is paying him, then I think there's a significant improvement there, but yeah we won't really know how well the overall defense is playing until the season is underway

significantly upgrade the front 7 (real space eating NT and a DE that can put pressure on QB) and watch RR transform into a great DC

sadly, it is unlikely we will do this

You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. OTOH, he brings a lot on himself with his bombastic approach.

Well, given that Jerry has unlimited resources to hire the best coaching staff in the NFL, I' would have hoped that Rob and Jason would have performed a little better than they did last year. But they should be given some time to instill their respective programs and prove their worth. Rob inherited mostly garbage, Jason, not so much.

I would have to give the proverbial incomplete grade. Short offseason, virtually no ability to sign anyone of serious need due to cap and time. Then made do with what was in the cupboard.

I can appreciate the aggressive approach he wants to implement, but not with the secondary we had. Same for the pass rush. Trying man coverage with that talent pool tells you about his ego. If he thought he had a "plug and play" system that could work no matter what I would imagine he now knows that is a theory he can scrap.

He improved the defense from 2010 by 100 points without an off season.

Cut the dead weight, bring in better talent, give him an off season, I expect another big improvement this year.

I like him. With the right talent watching his aggressive style will be a lot of fun. Imagine how many drives that will end when those blitzes start arriving a second sooner.Ryans got some good young backers. With the departure of Campo and Newman our secondary improved. Carr is one of the missing pieces but we need a hit man opposite Ware to complete this phase of the rebuilding.

It's just "consensus."

"General consensus" is redundant.
Within group A, subgroup A-1 could have a consensus, which I wouldn't consider a "general consensus" given the context.

Good coach but he needs players like anybody else.

Don't pay any attention to what he says about his talent. He always says that. That's his way of supporting his guys.

Coaching isn't an issue in Dallas, IMO.
I say what you said.
