Dallas was always expected to take a committee approach at tight end. Blake Jarwin played more total snaps than Swaim in the preseason, but it's the latter who was graded above-average in pass-blocking at Pro Football Focus. Rico Gathers, who avoided being released following an arrest for marijuana possession Friday evening, is listed ahead of rookie Dalton Schultz. I don't think he's physically ready to compete at an NFL level anyway. Half a mil for a great seat to COwboys games every week. Nice work if you can get it.

Eh. Only a stone's throw from production we'd have gotten if Witten came back, sorry to say.

The failure to legitimately replace the player Witten used to be was turning into a problem even before Witten ever left the building.

After 700-something yards in 2015, he gave us 600-something in 2016 and 500-something in 2017. You don't have to draw up a chart to see which way the arrow was heading or just how steeply it was heading that way. He'd have given us only 400-something in 2018, as hard as he was trending downward.

He wasn't gonna be a producer anymore anyway. People forget that when they groan at the realization that this year's TE collection will be bad. But they were gonna be bad no matter what. Hopefully the team will be more interested in revitalizing the position come 2019.

What matters is overall TE production. We won’t be using one TE Iike we did Witten, but I would bet overall TE production is at least equal to what we got from TE last year.
