1) CB Byron Jones will help this team right away: First-round pick Byron Jones is off to a solid start in his first NFL training camp. He’s shown enough early that gives you confidence he should be able to help this team at cornerback and/or safety right away. As usual, no one has been able to stop Dez Bryant on routes in camp. But Jones did Tuesday in 1-on-1 drills, keeping Bryant from making a catch down the left sideline. Jones can also play safety, which will help the Cowboys use their dime defensive package more often this year.

2) The Cowboys are higher on rookie LB Damien Wilson than you might be: I have to admit that before training camp started, I didn’t see much of a role on this year’s team for rookie linebacker Damien Wilson. But the fourth-round pick out of Minnesota keeps showing up and now finds himself running at first-team weak-side linebacker with the club easing Sean Lee back into the mix. The Cowboys are high on Wilson and like what they’ve seen so far from him in camp. With the veteran linebackers added in free agency in the offseason, Lee healthy again and re-signing Rolando McClain, I thought Wilson would be a forgotten man. He’s left an impression with coaches and should help give the club more depth at linebacker this season.

3) CB Orlando Scandrick hasn’t looked like the Orlando Scandrick of last year’s training camp

I'm concerned about OScan but there's time. Do you think he's bottomed out?

Dunno. He needs to deliver. I was all for paying him more because he had earned it, but he needs to keep it up.

And by all accounts the guys is a grade a jerk. That bit about Jones...what a useless thing to do.

Oh well, get out there & deliver.

Why can't we find a TE that will takeover for JW one day?

Article doesn't give much really. But do appreciate posting it, it is always good to read this stuff, however....
How about 5 players as to rookies or 2nd year guys or injury guys returning.

We know what Tyron Smith can do, we know Scandrick will be fine.

Escobar can fart, and someone will complain he was a 2nd round pick. He can make a diving catch and someone will complain he didn't have enough style points on the dive for a 2nd round pick.

Now the stuff on Jones and Wilson, yes he needs to keep it to that. Or report more stuff like this, rather a player looks good or not good at this point. What about Whaley, how has he looked, or how are the FA WR's competing against each other.

Sorry for the rant, but give us something we don't already know. We don't need to know Romo looks good or bad, we know he will be fine also.

No team can replace a TE like Witten. Escobar has big shoes to fill, and he shouldn't be knocked because he can't get on the field. This is where the coaches need to get him in on more plays. But Witten is still to dang good.

Look how long it takes a team to replace a great QB, look how long it took Dallas to replace Aikman, with Romo, and still many complain about that.
Raiders are still looking for a QB, well, actually they are still looking for a team...but that's another issue...lol...

Lots of guys around the league much like Escobar right now. JWit is just a diffferent breed than most. The TE position is quickly becoming a high priority for me in the draft though. IMO JWit declined last season. I only expect it to get worse.

I think Wilson will wind up starting at SAM and will be our 4th LB once McClain returns. Considering how nicked up our LB corps got last year, I could see him starting 12 or so games

I wonder if we dangle Escobar as trade bait. He is a better player then Hanna, but Hanna will see the field more

Wilson looked good in practice yesterday. Looks like the Cowboys may have hit on another late round LB.

Wow. How y'all love attacking people's character. I asked a basic football question. What is this you're talking about regarding Scan and Jones?

Scan is a Pro's Pro, of anyone who may be described as having a rough camp, Scan concerns me the least. He's done enough in his career for me to throw a " Its just a little offseason rust" comment out there

I hope so. Scanny deserves my support. He's earned it.

Brandon George said:
Speaking of being a veteran, Scandrick interrupted rookie cornerback Byron Jones’ interview with media after practice Tuesday (Jones was surrounded on the field by reporters) to remind him not to forget picking up Scandrick’s shoulder pads before leaving the field. Scandrick dropped the shoulder pads behind Jones as he left the field and Jones still talking to media.
*DallasEast scans the thread*

During his first training camp, Dez Bryant received decades-old heckling that rookies automatically receive from veterans--courtesy of fellow wide receiver Roy Williams. Certain forum members took grave offense to Williams' actions (much moreso than Bryant himself) stating Dez was a victim of outdated hazing and such behavior should be expunged from the sport of football. Incredibly, the outrage of yesteryear is absent from this thread. Hasn't Jones suffered the same malicious indignity that Bryant somehow mysteriously endured? Where's the tidal wave of empathy for Jones as it was for Bryant? Puzzling.

Sometimes you have to earn the right to haze. When I was in the Marines, turds hazing boots was frowned upon
