Get Tyler Smith signed now!

There no good reason to not get an early extension deal completed with Smith. He is, IMO, a top-4 guard at worse in the league, and will be the lynchpin of this line for 5-8 years if he stays healthy.

Many people don't like paying guards big money. A good starting point would be the Landon Dickerson contract. He signed an $84 million contract in 2024. Dickerson is a better run blocker, while Smith is a better pass protector. Seeing as how Dak is not the mobile QB we once knew, this is of most importance.

The Eagles have a potential out in 2027 that would leave them with a cap hit of just over $12 million. His UFA year in 2029 is also a void year with a cap hit of $12.5 million.

I would offer Smith a 5-year, $110 million contract now. Yes, $22 million a year for a guard, but a guard that is already elite, young, can still improve, and might have an argument for the best guard in the NFL in a year or two. This is a player that can stabilize an entire o-line. The contract can be structured for an early exit in case of injury, as our stinking rivals in Philly have shown.

Please do not let any Tyler Smith contract talks turn into what we just witnessed.
I couldn't agree more. There's just one problem. Ask Jerry why he doesn't extend his 1st round picks after 3 years. He just doesn't do it.

No, they need to have a full offseason of dragging him in the media before negotiations can begin

I’m on team rebuild, so he’s one that could bring a nice haul in a trade

But … since Jerry can’t ever rebuild, and could very well end up using the GB picks to bring in some “win now” veterans …

Absolutely, extend him as soon as possible

His agent would be a fool to do so though, so look to February as the earliest this could get done even with a good GM.

Woah, what’s the rush? Let’s wait until the last minute and his price is sky high. That’s the Jones boys way.

That would definitely be the smart move given the new cap space.

There are some players you wait and see because they may not maintain their on-the-field performance level after a year or two, but Smith has proven himself.
Same agent though, and I wonder if he'd be so quick to be agreeable.

Can Jerry do Tyler's contract early after dragging out Dak, CeeDee and Micah? Will Jerry drag this one out to prove that's how he does things? Or will he sign Tyler early to rub Micah's nose in it?

Of course he should sign him early, but Jerry does what's best for Jerry's ego, not what's best for the Cowboys.

Lets say they did sign him now for 5 years 22M per, like the OP suggests.

5 years 110M + 2 years 25M = 7 years 135M. Averages out to about 19M per. Lets see what actually happens after they wait until next year.

No point in signing him this early. He has three years left on his rookie deal (including this year). If he stays healthy over the next two seasons, they’ll get him signed before his 5th year option.

Still think it's Bland this year and Smith next year.
Bland is so tricky. He is gonna want top corner money because of that big season in 2023. To be honest he is a good corner not a great corner but is probably the most versatile corner in the league. His agent is gonna ask for Stingley Jr. money.

Hmm??? He is entering his 4th year, so he doesn’t have three years left on his rookie deal. Signing him now sends a message that players are valued here and saves money. He is clearly the best lineman we have on either side of the ball. He is the building block you build around.

My bad, had my years mixed up. He should get signed next offseason or even late this season. I’d avoid signing him now just to protect against injury.

That’s not how we roll. Tyler will play the entirety of his contract and then, only after everyone else at the position has gotten their raise, will Jerry make an offer.

It majj k es sense so no chance it happens.

Is that Ol Jerry with big ears or are my eyes deceiving me.
That is truly funny really good stuff, I had a real good laugh I really enjoyed that Mr. 437.No matter what Ol Jerry does I will remain a Diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. I love the team despite Ol Jerry and I am still excited about the season. Dallas should have a balanced offense and a top defense. Dallas 38 Philadelphia 24 GO COWBOYS.
