Dallas QB Tony Romo is having a career year. He is averaging 313 yards passing per game, has completed almost 70% of his attempts and has a 93.6 passer rating. His 10 TD strikes place him 4th in the NFL – tied with Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Eli Manning.

Romo has been sacked only seven times in 206 attempts, one more than the league-leader, Peyton Manning, and has not fumbled once. He has thrown seven INTs, but that stat is misleading since five of those seven picks were off tipped balls.

So why are the Cowboys a 1-4 team this year?

“None of us here thought we were going to be in this situation” Romo told reporters yesterday. “You don’t work as hard as we do and commit to every day and doing the things we do to be like this. It’s not fun. It’s not enjoyable and you have to figure out a way to win and get yourself out of this and that’s what we’re trying to do right now.”

Mainly--Long fields for the offense (due to lack of takeaways and poor ST's), penalties in crucial situations, and a pass defense that hasn't been nearly as good as it was last year.

Turnover differential.

We have the NFL's 32nd out of 32 defenses at creating turnovers since 2009, almost assuring us every game that we'll end up no better than tied in the turnover battle. Any turnover by the offense assures us that we'll lose the turnover battle.

The point is that even though the int. stat is attributed to Romo, Romo didn't actually make a bad play on five of those interceptions. It's the difference in evaluating a player and compiling the statistics for a player from the box score.

Yea, but the ball thrown to Bennett was forced between 3 defenders and high. The tip by Jason Witten was thrown early and behind him. One of the tipped balls vs Minn hit a linemen's helmet. Yes Free blew it by Romo compounded it by not throwing the ball away. He tries to go across his body while running to his right and hit a linemen in the head.

Not pinning it all on Romo but these types of mistakes have been following him around his whole career. The whole entire team needs to play better.

He struggles when he presses. He generally presses when he feels he has to carry the team because the team is struggling. Who doesn't?

How can smarter coaching prevent turnovers? At some point the players have to execute. Coaches can only do so much. Yeah, maybe a different play here and there could have prevented it, but if you beat the guy in front of you... 90% of the time you are going to win in that situation. Goes for all positions.
