GIANTS SAY BRADSHAW ARREST COMES FROM OLD INCIDENT

Posted by Mike Florio on June 19, 2008, 3:58 p.m.

The New York Giants have addressed the unfortunate incarceration of running back Ahmad Bradshaw, who has been in jail since Saturday.

Here’s the team’s statement, via Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger: “We are aware of the situation and have been in contact with Ahamd’s [sic] legal representative. This situation is not the result of any recent incident. It stems from an issue that occurred prior to Ahmad being drafted by the Giants. Beyond that, we have no further comment.”

Still, a guy just doesn’t get thrown in jail for doing nothing. Even if it isn’t a new crime (alleged or otherwise), he has at a minimum violated the express terms that allowed him to avoid going to jail.

So we don’t think much of the team’s “don’t hold it against us” routine. When attempting to stay out of trouble, a guy needs to know what will get him into trouble. For a person on probation, there are extra things that need to be done, and to be avoided, to keep the guy free.

In Bradshaw’s case, he either did something he shouldn’t have done, or failed to do something he should have done.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t currently be eating his meals off the finest tin money can buy.

Way to make that extra clear. Basically pleading to not feel the wrath of regoR

I agree with you, but the parole violation, whatever it was, must have been recent. It'll be interesting to see what old Roger does.

He didn't get a jail sentence; he only got probation. That's not a harsh punishment for stealing.

I hope the probation violation that has landed him in jail is for theft. Then we can chant: "Little Ahmad's gone to prison for taking something that wasn't his'n." Just kidding!

that's what us criminal elements nickname probation:D

it still seems excessive for one game, I can see larceny

It's West Va...

EDIT: The article says in Va... but isn't Marshall in W. Va?

Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw has been jailed in Virginia since June 15 for an undisclosed probation violation.

Bradshaw reported to jail voluntarily, but he remains incarcerated. He was sentenced to two years of probation for misdemeanor petty larceny while attending Marshall due to stealing a PlayStation game from another student. No further details on his situation are currently available.

Bradshaw really does some stupid things.

He was set to go to UVA but lost his scholarship after he ran from police when they tried to stop him as he was walking down the street. He ran because he had a cup full of beer. Yes, a cup full of beer.

Now he breaks his probation? The guy may be doing small things, but he sure does screw up alot.

That cup of beer may have been enough to lose his scholarship for underage drinking.

The probation term doesn't seem all that excessive to me. You have to look at it like this.... The probation is just how long he has to follow the rules in order to avoid his 30 day sentence.

In my experience anyway, it's pretty rare to see anything less than one year probation if the DA takes it that far.

The 30 day sentence sounds maybe a little excessive for a theft of something probably around $50 in value, but he may have some priors.

BRADSHAW’S DAD: JAIL UNRELATED TO COLLEGE TROUBLE

Posted by Michael David Smith on June 20, 2008, 8:04 a.m.

It’s still unclear why Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw is behind bars, but his father suggested to the New York Daily News that it has nothing to do with the legal trouble Bradshaw had in college.

The Daily News reports that James Bradshaw, Ahmad Bradshaw’s father, was reached by telephone last night and “would only say that the probation violation had to do with a previous juvenile offense unrelated to the player’s run-ins with the law while at the University of Virginia and Marshall University.”

That contradicts the theory floated by Tom Rock of Newsday that either one or both of Bradshaw’s two college arrests violated his probation from when he was a juvenile, and that’s why he’s currently serving 30 days in jail.

But it still doesn’t answer a very simple question: Why is Bradshaw in jail? His lawyer won’t say, the team won’t say, and everyone is left to wonder.

If this were a Cowboy player, Ed Werder would be on ESPN live right outside the jail house reporting on this.

I can hear it now: "Yet another Cowboy player........"
