i googled it. seems judge wanted to bring in his old new england line coach to work with columbo and columbo took umbrage at the suggestion. seems a stupid move on the part of columbo as he's probably killed any chances to ever coach again.

update. others are now claiming rumors of fight are false. but there was an argument. the guy claiming there was a fight was a fox sports reporter.
