Antrel Rolle Visiting the Giants Today: The Sun-Sentinel (Florida) is reporting that unrestricted free agent safety Antrel Rolle, who was recently waived by the Arizona Cardinals because he was due to make $12 million in 2010, will visit the Giants today. The paper says the Giants are expected to offer Rolle the $8 million-per-season contract he is seeking. The Dolphins and Bears are also reportedly interested. The Cardinals are also hoping to re-sign him but he has already turned down a six-year, $38.6 million offer from Arizona

Jerry is sittin on his hands on this one and it pisses me off.
:laugh2:

It was inevitable after all of the bowing and scraping at the feet of Rolle since it was announced he was hitting the market.

Of course. He's just "sitting on his hands".

Hands that are tied by the restrictions placed on how much we could spend as a final eight team.

No but he's every bit as cocky as people think.
Which is why I'm not worried. He's not going to be outdone. We'll get players...it may not be until draft day, but we will get them.

They also just cut him and that team is going to suck.

Plus, its not like he is going to see all 38 million of that. At 6 years, he'd be lucky to see 20.

He'll get paid. He'll get his "look at me contract" that appears to be worth way more than it is but I just don't think he will get so much that it should dissuade a team to inquire about him.

Wow so Phillips injury may be career ending?

He was evolving into one of the best in the game.
It could be.

But the Giants also flip flop their safeties quite a bit and Phillips played strong safety in 2008.

he is rolle said he is looking for like 8 million a year

He's not getting 8 million and if hes getting 4-5 I'm going to be ****ing pissed.

Paycheck or not, he upgrades the Giants defense big time.

Exactly. There's a bunch of loopholes you can do with his contract. Make it look glamorous but he'll never see that last 20 mil or so.

I bet he gets a ton of upfront money.

No, he doesnt.

He's an ok player, but he is not a premier player. He certainly didnt seem to help the Cards defense much in the playoffs this year, they were putrid. Like I said the other day, I'm not sure there's much difference between him and Hamlin. Hamlin's vastly overpaid, looks like Rolle's gonna get vastly overpaid too.

And that is exactly what we were limited in what we could offer if we were even interested.

As much as Jerry Jones has spent over the years, you would think that if we were interested, it would happen.

He so much as told everyone within the last 48 hours what was going to happen. And all it takes is one free agent splash to New York (which they had two BTW, how did those work out) to get people upset.

I am glad the Giants are going this route once again. Rolle is okay, but hardly worth the big cash. And if there is one thing they obviously did not learn last year is that making the big splashes in free agency does not mean they are a great fit for their football team.

How we added Olshansky and especially Brooking should tell you how important chemistry is. Rolle would not have fit regardless. With big contracts come big egos. And Rolle is no shrinking violet.

Well I personally think Rolle is an above average safety and a huge upgrade over Hamlin.

Rolle is an extreme upgrade over CC Brown.

He's better than Hamlin. How much, who knows.

But in the right system with a pass rush that get the QBs to throw, I'd bet he'd do more than Hamlin.

Hamlin's the same guy who was cut in Seattle because he wasn't getting it done.

Leonard Davis is the same guy who was cut from Arizona because he wasn't getting it done.

Rolle's get enough talent to at least inquire. A fresh start with a talented bunch around him could maximize his potential. This team knows what Hamlin is. At worst, Rolle would come in and play the same as Hamlin. At best, he comes in and matures into the ballhawk that Dallas needs back there.

LOL.. Who in free agency isn't looking for a big paycheck.
sometimes guys will take a big contract with a chance to win over a huge contract and playing for a bottom feeder.

At the end of the day, that's what your looking for at every position.

Rolle at 5.5 million>>>>>>>>Hamlin at 5.5 million

What 27 year old has EVER done that?

I'm with you. I don't get the love for him.

Plus, I think Whisenhunt is a very smart guy. If he doesn't want to break the bank for one of his players, I wouldn't want to, either.

Good. That means less teams in the hunt for a safety like Earl Thomas or Nate Allen.
I agree...maybe one less out of many. And pretty much all of the teams looking at Safties in Rd1 have other needs as great or greater than FS. So it can't hurt.
Still seems that odds are long.

I'm pretty sure that we could not sign him for the 5.5 mil...so the Cowboys (and the other final 8 teams) were out...or at least that's how it seems.

i'm sure if you look you can find plenty of examples. if Rolle just wants the biggest contract he can get no matter what team it is than i'm glad he won't be here. he's also not as good as he's been hyped up to be these last few weeks.

So are pretty much any of the highly ranked safeties in the draft.

Remember, not only is the upfront money a concern, but what of the potential cap if the owners and union come to a new agreement?

Spending what Rolle is commanding on the front end of his contract could be a big problem. And for not that great of a talent.

At the end of the day, that's what your looking for at every position.

We probably will not pay Hamlin 5.5 million. I would be surprised if that is the case. I do not think Hamlin is nearly as terrible as you state, but in an upcapped year, I do not care who gets paid what. I just would exercise a lot of caution before signing a big contract free agent this year not knowing what the future CBA is going to look like. And if anyone has an inkling, I would believe Jones does have one.

I don't think it's ever happened.

I dont blame him for wanting to get paid.

I blame Jerry for not spending the money and putting the best product on the field.

If we're trading for Earl Thomas for sure then okay I see what he's doing
