I didn't realize that they didn't have toomer anymore.

However Steve Smith will be there #1 hick was decent but unreliable at times (eagles game)

Then they drafted Barden this year who could be huge for them.
last year they drafted Mannigham they have that moss kid.

Their WR doesn't seem to strong however, I think the strength of the giants will be their pass rush and running game.

Isnt it hillarious how the 2008 giants were exactly to a T the 2007 Dallas Cowboys....in every single way. Exactly the same.
Yet no one talks about it. they are the number 1 seed and lose a home playoff game to an nfc east opponent and its because the eagles are good. Dallas does the exact same thing and its because they are TERRIBLE, Horrible, suck, romo is overrated and sucks...etc...

Except that one team won the Super Bowl the previous year, and the other had not won a playoff game in a dozen years.

what does that matter? it was 2008 not 2007.

I remember in 1996 people losing their minds when Dallas lost in the divisional round on the road at carolina. then when anyone associated with or a fan of the cowboys said anything like you just said, people went bezerk on them about how that was a year ago.

Funny how that doesnt apply now. The giants had a great 4 game run. Take away those 4 games, which you really cant do, but if you look at it over a number of years, so 2004 when manning was drafted the giants have had the exact same problems as Dallas.

buy hey, you won the superbowl and deservedly so in 07 so anything that happens in the future doesnt matter, you won the 07 superbowl.

carolina manhandling you in 05 at home in the playoffs, the eagles physically beating you up in 06 and 08 dont matter. Only 2007 does. Cool.

I hope your players and front office feel that way too.

My point was in reference to the media and wider public's perception of the Cowboys. When you win a Super Bowl you get leeway, before 2007 Eli Manning was considered every bit the choker Tony Romo is now. Right or wrong that's how it is, no point complaining about preferential treatment.

From a talent standpoint, we're at least the Giant's equal. I like our skill players on both sides of the ball better than theirs. As others have pointed out, without Burress their WRs have a big dropoff. Yea, they drafted two WRs, but they're rookies. I'd rather have our receiving corp anytime, and when you add the TEs to the mix it isn't even close. They've got good running backs, but I think we have the best trio in the entire league and they can all do different things. We have the better secondary and better LBs. Our secondary, if it can stay healthy, can be one of the best in the league. It's young and very athletic. Yea, they're going to make some mistakes, but I'll take youth, athleticism, and speed any day over older worn out players. The only places the Giants have an edge over us are on both lines. I don't think their OL is much better when we have everyone healthy. I also don't think we've used our OL like it should be used. I think we will this year with more emphasis on the running game. They've got a GREAT DL, but our isn't exactly horrible. Plus, it's hard to compare a 4-3 DL with a 3-4 DL. Our talent is at the LB spots.

They have better coaching and seem to have more heart. That's the difference. I think we'll finish ahead of the Giants this year. We'll just have to wait and see.

sadly, the NYG are everything we're not

* superbly coached & managed
* run by an excellent GM
* class organization/front office
* tough on the field
* clutch (manning drives for last second half TD vs DAL, superbowl winning TD, nevermind the miracle pass/grab setting it up... OTOH crayton drops ball, Romo is a turnover machine in big games)
* not "hollywood"
* have a legit home field advantage (wind difficult on opposing QBs)

they'll have 10+ wins this year without question.

Romo must have nightmares about both Giant games last season. :)

I'm sure that make you feel perfectly a-ok with CHOKING away the #1 seed in the conference at home to a division rival.

Like theebs said, you guys are the favorites and superior to us in almost every way, right? You claimed so yourself. So no excuses for losing to us this year... None.

Did I say it that? I just find it funny that a Cowboys fan of all people wants to talk about December collapses.

What? Who is arguing the Giants are superior to the Cowboys in every way? I do think the Giants are the better team, they've shown as much the past two years while improving this offseason, I also don't think the Cowboys have done themselves any favors with their offseason thus far including their draft. But this is the NFL and the games are played on the field for a reason.

Hm. Last year they were the #1 seed. Home field advantage.

And they lost in their first round of the playoffs.

Sound familiar?

Their defense is still going to be great which is why most think they'll still be very tough.

Their offense I believe is going to struggle early because Nicks won't be able to replace Plax, production wise, right away and the rest of the receivers won't scare anyone. Jacobs will find a lot more company around the line, at least early on, so they're going to have to really lean on their defense to win games for them for at least the first couple of months of the season.

we'll see. As of right now you have the top defense in the division(Boley was a nice pickup,you over payed for Canty, Bernard could work out) but you guys are 1 dimensional on offense. you guys better hope that 6'6 Barden kid can get on the field so Eli has somebody to bail him out when he sails the ball high again. Gilbride has his work cut out for him.

Even more funny that a Giants fan would come to a Cowboys forum and expect not to find people pointing out things that are wrong with the Cowboys rivals.

Tony Romo is 4-1 as a starter against the Giants. If the Cowboys stay healthy, I like our chances this year.

The media love is based on having strong Oline and Dline and a solid QB and corners.. but really it's just based on the fact that they are currently a winning team and the Plaxico thing is still seen as a hiccup. Don't worry, if they start out 1-3 the media will be killing them for not signing Boldin or Edwards and saying that Brandon Jacobs is not motivated now that he has a big contract. It's New York, everything is overemphasized, both bad and good.. it's either great or the worst. Everyone is hopeful this time of year.. just last week everyone was bashing the Jets for not acquiring a vet QB in the offseason.. now everything is wonderful with Sanchez.. it's pretty funny.

The problem with the Cowboys is that they are portrayed as a team that likes to draw attention to itself which opens you up to greater criticism. Also the media knows that there is a large Cowboys fanbase and they will get ten times as many responses by saying something negative than they will if they say something positive.

The NFC East will be earned every year.

We'll see.

I do think it's funny that a rookie first round pick is perceived to be better than Roy Williams.

Lot's of wishful thinking going on in this thread. The Giants are a far better football team going into this season than the team that lost a hard fought battle to the Eagles in the playoff's. Defensively we are much better. We are getting our best pass rusher back in Osi, you know the All-Pro DE we played the entire season without? We bolstered our already ridiculously deep defensive line with Canty and Bernard, added an athletic WLB in Boley who is able to rush the passer and drop back in coverage effectively, something we didn't have last year. We also added a beastly SLB named Clint Sintim in the 2nd round who has a penchant for wrecking QB's as he led the ACC in sacks, and figures to see plenty of playing time as a situational pass rusher/run defender.

And our secondary was already great, led by the most underrated CB in the NFL in Corey Webster. Yeah, we lost Spags, but we're still running the same attacking defense, and the personnel wasn't allowed to follow the guy to St. Louis.

Offensively we'll be fine, people have overblown that 1-3 record to end the regular season, if we had played anything more than our backups for the 2nd half against the Vikings we would have crushed them. We imposed our will offensively against the Commanders and Panthers. Dallas and Philadelphia gave us problems... but um, they both had pretty damn good defenses.

So I really believe we'll be okay with the guys we have, I love the Nicks pick, Smith, Boss and Hixon are solid. I also think Travis Beckum will develop well as a hash and redzone weapon. And Andre Brown, Ahmad Bradsawh and Danny Ware will be more than an adequate replacement for Ward who made a name for himself through our offensive line which is completely intact.

Don't kid yourselves people, the Giants are a deep and talented team that will contend for years to come.

Are you talking about the great Osi who had 12 sacks in 2007 with 6 coming in one game against the great Winston Justice. That means in 15 games he had 6 sacks. Hell Ellis had more than that. I think Osi is a good player, but he's not great.

In my thread I meant strictly offense, since everywhere you read everyone is saying Dallas offense will suck because we got rid of TO and RW is no #1.

This is not a battle you want to fight, trust me. Osi is a GREAT player, an All-Pro defensive end, they don't give those away like pro bowl bids, you really have to earn them. Besides the pretty sack numbers (he had 13 in 2007 by the way not 12) he is a defensive leader on and off the field, and game breaker. And just to show sacks are not the end all be all at the position, I've watched the 2008 Super Bowl probably a dozen times, and no players contributions were as criminally overlooked in that game as Osi.

He absolutely demolished Matt Light that entire game yet he did not manage a single sack. But he did have a bunch of QB hurries and knocked Brady down practically at will, and he was just as disruptive against the run. So yeah, getting this guy back is a HUGE addition. And almost unfair to the rest of the division considering it means a very good DE in his own right Mathias Kiwanuka will get to come off the bench fresh, and hungry for some QB.
