Don't buy into the "tougher schedule" stuff. Who knows? Every year is different and what may seem like a tough schedule could end up being easy, or vice versa.
One of the biggest myths in the league. Just look at the Cowboys. A year ago teams looked at their schedule and circled the Cowboys as a W. Oops.

Can't be, the fans haven't scared away Jerry Jones yet...he's the cause of all evil. :)

Worth exactly zero.

Same type of thing everyone said about the Cowboys after the 2007 season.

Two year later the Cowboys were 0-7 and the HC was fired half way through.

That's why everyone was saying 3 weeks ago the window is here and now. So take advantage. Because you simply never know how things are going to play out season to season.

Unless your franchise carries the moniker of New England Patriots. Then you know. At least until Belichick and Brady are gone. LOL!!!

I got a window, but the blinds are closed on it. That window can be open as long as I want, but it would be my job to go over there and keep it open even in winter.

Point is, you gotta find that guy who doesn't even want to be in the same parking lot with you. Our window can be open for forever, but if we don't find that guy on D, the blinds are still closed on that window.

@toddarcher: It will be mostly through the draft. That's the smart way to do it. They will make some free-agent signings, but I would bet they would be more in the Cedric Thornton range (four years, $17 million) than the megabuck range. That's just not their philosophy. I don't know how often I have to mention that, but every time Stephen Jones talks about free agency he says the bang doesn't match up with the buck. But you mentioned trading, and that is an interesting idea. The Cowboys aren't averse to trading, but the last significant deal they made was picking up Roy Williams (the receiver) in 2008. That didn't work out so well. In order to get something of consequence you have to give up something of consequence. I don't know what the Cowboys could give up to land a big piece short of their first two picks. I'm not sure I'd go that route considering their need to balance their cap obligations. So I'll say it again: draft and draft well. Over the past few seasons with Will McClay in charge, we've seen the Cowboys do a better job of identifying players in every round.

Let's win a few playoff games before worrying about Super Bowl windows. This is absurd.

We haven't sniffed a Super Bowl in 21 years.

2014 - (12-4)
2016 - (13-3)

That doesn't qualify as to general and current direction? Now, if the defense actually gets good, what then? The offense going to fall off a cliff as in 2015?

First legitimate question...did you even watch this season?

Gil Brandt: Cowboys have one of NFL's best Super Bowl windows; here's why

http://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/d...andt-cowboys-one-nfls-best-super-bowl-windows

Dez Bryant says the Cowboys have built something "that can last." Troy Aikman says this season was a success for Dallas.

So even though the Cowboys were one-and-done this season in the playoffs, there's still hope for the team's Super Bowl future. At least according to Gil Brandt.

Dallas was the No. 2 team of seven in Brandt's top Super Bowl windows. He gives the Cowboys a four-year window with Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott leading the way. The only team to top Dallas was Atlanta.

"There are some challenges on the horizon: handling a tougher schedule in 2017, improving the pass rush, keeping the secondary viable despite Barry Church, Morris Claiborne, Brandon Carr and J.J. Wilcox hitting free agency," Brandt said.

"But the coaching staff is staying together, while Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and Zack Martin are all under contract through at least 2018 (with Smith and Frederick locked up well beyond that), and Dez Bryant should continue to be a premier weapon. The bottom line is, Offensive Rookie of the Year candidates Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott are just scratching the surface. History tells us guys improve a lot from Year 1 to Year 2, and hard as it might be to believe, Prescott and Elliott could be even better going forward."...
Please, please don't waste this chance. Dallas, I've seen one SB win, and I had just turned 11 two months earlier. I'm starving for a ring, especially since I now realize how hard they are to get.

exactly, 1 in how many? that possibly will produce 3. 2 were on very few radars, 1 was a given, whether you liked the choice or not. Soooooo how many drafts have been really good? Keep in mind before last years, we heard "this is a great draft we got 3 number 1 picks" How did that turn out?

So if our HC sucks....and our offensive coordinator sucks....and our drafting sucks....how did we just turn into one of the top teams in the league?

Learn to give credit where credit is due. You're hating on the article in the OP...but you're even more biased, only in the opposite direction.

For that illness, no amount will alter...until it happens.

I'm more content with the play of football itself. I don't have to challenge Vegas to find my satisfaction, and win through winning bets on them.

I don't understand.

I'm content without a added discussion on missing out on a Super Bowl. What fan doesn't want that final reward for his team.

I believe sportsmanship...still allowed for a fan in the NFL, calls for me to enjoy the actual play, and not only in terms of winning it all. The Cowboys sacrifice a ton, for my benefit...and I appreciate their play on that basis. That standing on it's own benefits and rewards for me as a fan. I'm not going to short change Dallas for being a good team, but not the very best in a given season. I certainly won't be negative - vocal, for the lack of a Lombardi.
