So hard to do what we have done in the salary cap era.

A lot of these guys will go bye bye eventually.

True that is why it is important to manage your cap and to be able to draft good. Dallas really has helped themselves with the mid level FA and hitting on a number of draft picks. As we lose players Dallas must be able to find those young players in the draft and with FA. Guys like Brinkley and before him Durant, these are not your super stars but they are solid vet players capable of coming in and providing some good play

Again "Will McClay"

Him and people within the scouting department. I'm one who believes when running an operation like an NFL team there are a lot of people involved in the process. Like any other business the focus tends to be on 1 yet it is the rank and file who do much of the hard work to make it all come together

I think he's right. The team does have some good depth for once. And those idiots on ESPN are the worst. Most of the guys are homers on there. Bruschi is the worst. He makes me sick to my stomach. I really don't take too much stock in what they say or write

You mean the artice where John Clayton and some other suits at ESPN said the Cowboys project to be the 5th worst team in the NFL for the next 3 years? I did not know that. But I still think it is crazy. We played for the division title in week 17....4 years in a row!

I have to be honest. I felt so too. I thought Jerry Jones was leading this franchise into a direction that Al Davis did with the Raiders. I didn't think he could restrain himself. And many others didn't either. I think that was the basis of the opinion. And many thought we'd take Johnny Football - which would have been another impulsive JJ move. Fortunately, JJ is listening to his son and others. And by doing so, he has this franchise headed into the right direction.

But I'm not too hard on those who thought we'd be a bad franchise for years to come. With successive 8-8 records and missing the playoffs and a franchise, but aging, quarterback, I don't see how anyone could be supremely critical of those who didn't have much confidence in this team and its future.

Him and people within the scouting department.

Several years ago while visiting Dallas for a game (I Live in South Jersey and go to several games a year), I had the opportunity to have a casual conversation with Mickey Spag.

In that conversation he mentioned the upraise of this guy named Will McClay in the organization and he insinuated that it might not have been a bad thing to lose Jeff Ireland. Knowing that Will McClay was the former Desperadoes coach, I thought Mickey was losing his mind.

Will I guess he got one right. Lol

When you are in Week 17....win and you are in the playoffs scenario....4 years in a row...you are NOT the 5th worst franchise in the NFL. And we did all of this while rebuilding! Was I happy with 8-8? No! But we had a first time head coach who was trying to BUILD something. And to be in the hunt while you are BUILDING means you have a young progressing roster/coach....this scenario does not hardly constitute a bottom feeding franchise

Yeah. it was before last year. Basically they were saying what 75-80% of this board was saying--which was silly imo.

Anyway, water under the bridge and we're mostly all on at least a similar page this year.
That actually scares me a little.

Yet a panel of NFL experts....that project the NFL over the next 3 years....rated the Cowboys the 5th worst team in the NFL. I know at times people suggest that people say things about the Cowboys to drive ratings...but when you are not TMZ...or some other tabloid....your job is to offer a PROFESSIONAL assessment....and anybody who thinks this is the 5th worst organization over the next 5 years should NEVER be allowed to professionally opine on the NFL ever again!

Like weather forecasters they can be wrong most of the time, and still hold a job

............and didn't deserve to be there...............and lost........4 years in a row.

I guess I could not include 'didn't deserve to be there" for last year but, defensively....Dallas really didn't.

Still. WAAAYYYYYYY better football last year. Hands down. Across the board.

That's what makes this draft so valuable. Three first round talents will pay off for years. The NFL has become a bit like college, in that you're only as good as your recruiting class 2-3 years before.

With the exception of the running back position.

That's what could do this team in and it would be a real shame if that happens. It would lead to a lot of second guessing.
