Mike McCarthy was pushed out the door at Green Bay because Aaron Rodgers wasn't happy with Mike, correct me if Im wrong. As time has moved on, Aaron the great has had a few chances to get back to the Superbowl. No excuses because he's had very good receivers and people around him to accomplish his goals. Aaron hasn't gotten back to the superbowl in Green Bay. Maybe we should give Mike McCarthy a chance. He's already proven he can compete with the best. He's doing it now in Dallas.

So if he needed a QB the caliber of Aaron Rodgers the first time to accomplish winning the SB, are we to assume McCarthy can coach up Dak to the same level of performance?

I don't think Dak can be coached up to that level.
Nor do I think Dak can win 4 consecutive playoff games regardless of GM, HC, OC, DC or supporting cast.

At least everyone will finally be able to get off the "It's all Kellen's fault" excuse and allow McCarthy to sink or swim on his own terms.

McCarthy was brought in to do one thing - win playoff games. The team was ready made to be successful. So far he has been a complete failure. the 12 win seasons are nice but we had good years under Wade and Garrett before him, what they didn't do was deliver in the playoffs. This is where McCarthy was more experienced and would be an improvement, but so far, complete and total failure. We have been beat 2 years in a row by the same team with stupid plays to end the game both years. His clock management is pee wee football bad. He did do a good job of working with the injuries we had this year, so that is a big kudos to him and his staff but everything else is pretty underwhelming when it comes to big Mike.

The talent on that Green Bay team had deteriorated badly by the end of Mike’s time there.

They also “retired” their GM Thompson at the same time. He only wanted to build through the draft, but his drafts had sucked for years.

The defense had gotten terrible under Thompson, and as soon as the new GM came in he went on a huge FA spending spree on defense, which is what they badly needed. The defense was MUCH better in the first year after McCarthy left.

It was time to move on though. Mike’s time in GB was over. The team and he needed change.

However, LaFleur wouldn’t have won a lot without overhauling that entire defense.

Mike is clearly a good coach who has always proven that he can overcome a rash of injuries if needed… something a lot of coaches can’t.

When was the last time Dallas made it to the playoffs two years in a row. And also, could it be that he had his hands tied by Jerry making him allow Moore to call the plays

I can’t shake the Rodgers comment on MM.

I realize the circumstances, but I just don’t believe there’s no truth to it.

Between that and the limitations of the QB….I’ll be hopeful as always because I’m a fool….. but I don’t see how the MM/Dak combo gives us some sort of advantage over anyone….especially the brighter young minds in the league…ya know the ones that can see that their ‘good’ QB isn’t going to be good ENOUGH, and have the balls to make a huge change. Those types.

The Rams made the SB then traded their QB because they knew he wasn’t the answer.

Jerry would have built Goff a statue.

I'm ok with Big Mike getting one more year because I think a handshake deal is in place that the job is Quinn's in 2024 if the Cowboys regress or fail to improve.

Great post. Took the words right out of my mouth.
So for McCarthy skeptics such as you and I this year will finally show:
Can this guy coach up an inferior QB to a post season success level or will there be more of the same wild card win ceiling for this team?

Or even worse yet, a drastic decline in team performance?

The ball is in McCheese's court now. He's made his bed.

I wonder what he ultimately lies in.

I keep seeing that Mike is on the hot seat and that’s why he is putting the O in his hands. That’s ridiculous. The dude has won 25 games in the past two seasons. He’s third behind Reid, and McDermott.
