This. There is no replacing Zeke, but his absence likely will not be the reason we lose games.

I agree with both of you. People are jumping off bridges on this forum but we have decent backs. Can any one of them take a screen 85 yards? Probably not. But they can run for 6 yards on 1st down with the holes this line is making.

I will stand right there with anyone and make the argument that Zeke is our best player, but our backups are above average and this team is just gonna have to rally and figure out how to win some games.

This defense growing up and playing better is more important than anything for the rest of this season, as it's what has held the team back.

I honestly believe that Rod Smith has earned his fair share of reps in our running game. It's likely what he needs to gain more consistency going forward. I think his ongoing development is most likely to end up being a pleasant surprise for the offense. Here's hoping the staff sees enough in him to allow him an upturn in carries. They do appear to be duly encouraged by his progress. I can't help but think the arrow is pointing up for this guy. He's enjoyed success in the limited number of carries he's had so far. It's not too difficult to envision more reps to be forthcoming in the future.

agreed. hit the freaking hole.

Morris does too much side stepping and *****footing around if you ask me.

Smith goes straight ahead.

Agreed, although I've seen him make some pretty nifty moves as well. I look forward to seeing more of this young man. He offers a nice blend of power and flexibility.

DMC and ALF are good backs, but id like to see Rod get a good long look. I have a feeling about him. Playing on the same team as your brother always brings out the best in kids.

I agree, he should get "some" carries to see what he has or can do. If he does well then increase his carries. He has a Little Marion Barber in him. I saw this in the Washington Post this morning "But Dallas has already faced the tough part of its season in terms of rush defenses, so that could help offset the decline in talent level in the backfield. In fact, according to Sharp Football Stats, the Cowboys face the second-easiest slate of run defenses for the remainder of the season."

Rod has the most traits of Zeke at RB except the experience, but I think he can wear down a defense getting those dirty 3-4yrd gains and in the end break one late 3rd/4th qtr...

Rod can do it its just a matter of will they give him enough opportunities to do so .

Yall get ready cause when Morris is in the game its gonna be alot more 3 and outs than successful drives. i think

But if they start morris the offense my stay on schedule more than not

And he can play 3rd down and catch yea Rod need to start matter of fact

Man i hope we dont lose 3 games before the staff realize it

Rod could play the closer roll allah Marion Barber type roll too

Would you go with Rod Smith as a lead back if you knew your job security was based on the outcome.
I don't think coaches take those kind of chances these days. Especially on Jerry's dime. Smith is 3rd team &
special teams only...

Rod Smith at 6-3 240 is definitely a load to bring down if he gets to the second level. With his aggressive style he should be very productive behind our OL.

Stats...

Career preseason
48 carries for 248 yards...5.2 avg with no TD's
14 receptions for 89 yards with no TD's

Career regular season
12 carries for 74 yards...6.2 avg with no TD's
4 receptions for 33 yards with no TD's

Has never fumbled the ball.

I would like to see him get a real shot as Zeke's backup.

Yes I would. I'd at least give him a shot. He's younger, stronger and probably faster than the two old guys. And my job was always on the line when I had to make personnel decisions. Of course, I didnt work for Jerry. LOL
