Cooper did a nice job today. And is just a better G than Chaz Green. Glad the coaches are starting him. Chaz is perfect swing tackle.
No, he's not Green is an injury prone, not sure I want to play football guy. Cooper moves men, Green hangs in there .No. Chaz is better. Cooper is mediocre.
Cooper is healthy and available. A worse player who can play adds great continuity with a line that has three all pros. Don't need a star, just someone whose limitations you understand.
We'll draft a G first three rounds next year. No doubt
This switch happened before the Rams game when Green backed out on a Friday because of the bursitis. And with Tyron's back flaring up, it makes much more sense to leave Cooper in at LG and have Green ready as the swing OT since you're more likely to need him. Otherwise, something happens to Smith and you're back to moving two positions on the OL, which they obviously don't want to do.
I don't know why this wasn't the obvious choice to make coming out of training camp. Green being a backup G and T was a no brainer, especially with Cooper looking better.
With Green it is always something, after his rookie contract he will be somewhere else. He may even be able to pull it all together but I think it will be for another team a la Ron Stone.I never thought Cooper looked better than Green, and I think the coaches liked Green better at LG overall. Especially in pass protection. But he just can't stay in the lineup.
Bell backs up all four non-Center positions on the line, so he's a good player to have if you're starting Green. But you could hear the tone in Garrett's voice after the Rams that they were done. Giving him all those reps that week and having him wake up with bursitis on a Friday was the last straw, I think.
Either way, with Smith hobbled, it definitely makes more sense to have Green taking the practice reps there, since Smith isn't playing. Green-Cooper on that left side in an emergency is better than Bell-Green, for sure.

I do not know if its his heart,or his body. I am leaning more towards his body cannot take rigors of football since he had injury issues in college.I agree. It's too bad, because he's a pretty good player. Especially at Tackle. If he were more available, he could develop into a starter for us.

Green played LT today when Rush was the QB.You'd think, with a starting OL job on the line and the inside track, he's go if he could, but you never know. I suspect you're right, though.

G JONATHAN COOPER, 78.1 OVERALL GRADE
The entire Dallas offense was too much for the 49ers to deal with, and it’s telling that even Jonathan Cooper was able to grade above average and perform well. Cooper didn’t allow a pressure all game, and also made some significant blocks in the run game, even if he did have a bad play or two across the game.
