Elliott is not the guy I would have gone with. I think Mcfadden over the course of a full year would produce great numbers. I thought with Alfred Morris as a backup and Dunbar as a 3rd rd back we were set. I also thought a guy like Paul Perkins would have been a great pick that could take over after Mcfaddens contract was up

BUT

Elliott is good. Really good. He can do it all. He should have a great career and he will outproduce what we had. I can live with it I hope he can end up receiving a 2nd contract and be a long term solution.

But what they tried to do to trade up for Lynch has me fuming. I just don't get it. Were they trying to trade up with a 2nd and a 4th or a 2nd and a 3rd? I thought it was the 4th but I have seen others say the 3rd. That is two potential starters on a defense that is so talent deficient it makes my head spin.

They honestly believe Carr and Church are solid players. Year after year of trotting out the same guys while drafting guys like Escobar and Chaz Green. Fix the damn secondary and get some D-linemen in here.

A backup qb can be had in FA. This defense needs help in the worst way. Let's get them some help today.

Yea 100% agree, it's one thing to go cheap in FA and not sign a guy like Reggie Nelson or Weddle. But then you make strange draft picks and bizarre trade proposals for a backup QB. Are we rebuilding or trying to win now? The draft pick of EE says win now, but the Lynch pick would be more of a rebuilding pick with the defense being put on the back burner for another year.

Are you suggesting we use the draft to try to win now?

You don't mind doing coffee runs while we pick, do ya?

We are forced to go cheap in FA because we overspend on our own. The second a guy looks like he might produce we overpay him. I hope Crawford ends up being the 3 tech we need but damn is he expensive relative to production. Carr has to be the most overpaid CB in the league even after the pay cut. Church is expensive relative to production. Our franchise QB is killing the cap for years. Now we have one of the most expensive RB's in the league. I am glad Fred ended up being a good center but now I hear we will be paying him 8.8 mil. Seriously? For a center. I am glad we have less dead money on the cap and things have improved but still we can't add many solid pieces. Even the one we did (Thornton) is expensive relative to the talent we could have drafted at DT in this draft. I do not like the decisions made by the front office but I am hoping for the best.

That bothered me too. The Wentz/Goff train left the station. Let's focus on defense.

Although we truly won't know whether their attempt was sound until we see how Lynch performs (which could take a few years). If he lights it up, it may have been worth it. But he'd really have to be special to justify spending two players that could have been used to help this defense.

More talking out of both sides of their mouths from the FO. On the one hand we spend the highest pick in 25 years on a RB with a shelf life of 5 years because we are going all in while we have Romo. On the other hand we are going to use a 2nd and 3rd(the equivalent of a 1st) which could produce 2 starters on defense on a clip board holder further exasperating the amount of resources spent on the QB position.

Exactly. It makes no sense to me. I'm going to be sick if we grab Cook or Hack at 34.

Maybe he was thinking that spending a (high) 2 and a 3 or 4 for a guy they view as a potential franchise QB is way cheaper than other teams have recently paid? That's the only idea I can come up with.

Other teams trying to find a franchise qb don't have a qb taking up 35% of their cap space over the next 3 years.
