Other than helping Zeke..

Dak is going to get sacked less.

Wit being gone last year greatly contributed to Dak and 50+ sacks.

Part was the OL injuries..

but alot was that Witten was not open in the short zone for a quick completion and 1st down.

No sack..no holding the ball.

No stalled drives.

We all want the exciting plays for the highlite reels.

But how many points did we lose not extending drives and going backwards?

Way too many.

Witten is going to help everything on offense.

People tend to want to talk about what he is not.

I prefer what he is

Good.

:starspin:

did witten really make a difference the first go around? and how will a year older and a new system, i hope, help?

We just need someone who can be open in the red zone.

He's never been a big redzone threat. I don't expect him to be one for us.

On his career, Witten is a 4-5 TD a year guy. That include a lot of years making Pro Bowls with Tony throwing to him. Last 4 years, he's been a 4 td a year guy.

He has been a move the chains threat. Between Witt and Cobb, we're trying to replace the 3rd down production from Beasley.

I hope with the end near, and a reduction in snaps, he plays more physically this year. Have more fun playing football than being prudent. Just hit somebody!

Witten's importance to the offense was out of necessity, his relationship with the QB and owning the Y-Option as the safest and surest route on the team. If he needs to silence his critics, this team is going nowhere.

Witten used to be one of the top two options because the WR corps was not that strong and just from the view of route running, this corps has done an 180 on that. And I am assuming this will still be a team trying to reach that magic 50% on run calls so his value is more important as a blocker.

The Cowboys get to play NE again, think Belichick will be targeting Witten as the player he needs to erase. He'll beg them to feature him.

In order for Witten to "silence his critics" he'd have to be featured and return to pb status. If that happens, this team sits home in January. This better be about Elliott, Cooper, Gallup, Cobb and Austin moving the ball down the field and averaging close to 30 ppg. Hard to do that with a chain moving TE.
I understand your point but moving the chains is how you continue a drive without punting it back giving you a chance to score. Scoring 30 ppg can be accomplished in more ways then just throwing bombs down field or huge big plays every possession.

Randy Moss- 16 years in the league 226 receptions of 20+ yards.
Jason Witten- 15 years in the league 138 receptions of 20+ yards.

Not saying Witten is Moss, but to say Witten could not move is a stretch. How many times did we see Romo on the move and find Witten deep.
I agree

Once Dez left..

suddenly Beasley became our top threat and Witten's role became one-dimensional.

All of a sudden Witten could not make enough plays down field and he had to be replaced.

This caused Witten to look to leave.

Big mistake at all levels.

We jumped to conclusions about what and who was the problem

It was not Witten.

It was lack of other weapons..

Poor philosophy of trying to run WRs by Committee..

and un-creative playcalling.

Witten could play until he is 40 if Moore uses him correctly.

2 Reasons Witten returned..

Cooper is here .

Linehan is gone.

It is not as much to do with booth failure.

That was just a career opportunity.

Do not blame him for trying.

Many of us would too.

Nuff said.

Besides when he was good, witten has excelled at hindering the development of other cowboys tight ends.

He is back to fulfil his old role

I will miss Witten's genius in the booth and like many geniuses, he was not fully appreciated during his time.

I know it's ashame he's gonna stop Ricos development twice

He is taking reps from Schultz, jarwin, and Rico I guess.

I don't think witten offers much that Schultz and jarwin can't do. And they can run

Fasano..

Bennett

Escobar

Dead wood and head problems.

All were given chances to play..

None could succeed.

So Witten continuing to go to Pro Bowls is a problem.?

Revisionist history.

Sorry..you are wrong.

Witten is one of the greatest All Time Cowboy players.

You need some time out.

You are being a very bad Cowboy fan.

Agree but sustained drives that eat clock have to be mistake free, a holding call or even a motion penalty can derail it. And I do not see Prescott as a bomb thrower anyway but they've got to get down the field plays.

However, with the WR corps he has now, I can see that being a focal point of the OTA's and camp. He needs to watch how Wilson uses trajectory and not flatline his deep ball so much.

Ya know, Aikman's weakness was the deep ball, fluttered on him as it was descending. I became a Raiders fan because of the Mad Bomber, Lamonica, he was something else. He was the reason Crazy Al fell in love with speed receivers, see if they could outrun Daryle's deep ball. Troy said he was never able to outthrow Galloway.

I'm reserving judgment on witten until I see how he's used.

He was one of my favorite cowboys. But he also refused to come off the field. Bennet and Escobar should have been a lot more productive. Tony made multiple no talent receivers productive, but for some reason could only throw to his boyfriend tight end

Had dak not over or under threw jarwin on 2 or 3 of what would have been long tds, and looked his way when we was wide open other times, I bet you would be singing a different tune.

I don't get why he is back on the team

He is back on the team becuz Dak needs all the experienced players on the field he can get.

The other TEs are not ready yet.

Witten knows how to beat tight coverage.

He never drops passes.

Rarely has penalties whether holding or off sides.

His blocking is like a 6th OLmen.

Nobody else fills this for the team down after down.

It has been said Garrett must improve to stay.

So if I have my back to the wall..

give me my best, most loyal players around me.

Witten.

The only thing likely to silence Witten’s color-commentator critics is for JW to stay outta the TV booth.:);)

His blocking is not that great, and he was starting to get penalized more and more. I didn't see the other tight ends dropping passes.

old memories man. It is time to move on. Maybe they did it to ease his exit from broadcasting and he won't make the cut

Dak has never really had a deep threat or speed receivers. This past season with Austin, Gallup and Cooper he did and you seen him hit those deep passes.

I didn't mean just moving the chains is the way to go. I want a more balanced offense with deep balls thrown in. It will help for the receivers to run different routes as well, just look at the second Philly game for that evidence.

But stopping the run is priority #1 for the redzone defense. They won't be too concerned covering Witten, considering the weapons we have at wr to cover also. He should have plenty of chances to be open. And Linehand being gone can only help the redzone offense.
