WOW what a game 1 vs the NY Rangers.....5-4 victory for the Pens.....

This looks to be a very exciting series. Hopefully the Pens can keep their momentum and win this series.....

I see the winner of this series going up agains the Canadiens. I dont think Philly has what it takes to beat Montreal.

after a 2-0 win on Sunday and now a 5-3 win tonight......the Pens have a 3-0 lead in the series against the Rangers........

after a tough 2-0 loss on Thursday....the Penguins rebound with a 3-2 victory in OT today to win the series against the Rangers 4-1

bring on the Flyers..........

You better believe it! This team will be winning the cup, and start a dynasty. I never thought we could duplicate the Mario Lemeiux cup days, but we soon may better it.

I liked the Penguins better when they were on the edge of bankruptcy, and I STILL feel that the Crosby draft was rigged.

Rigged eh? If it was rigged I think a team like Nashville or Phoenix would have gotten him. The idiot brain trust in the NHL offices still believe they can sell hockey in those markets.

Is Dallas probably the only market in the Sunbelt that can sell hockey or am I missing a couple teams?

I believe so, Nashville, Phoenix, Florida all are brutal attendance wise. The Thrashers average more than the Hawks do, but Tampa Bay sells out every game.

great game last night.....Pens win 4-2 in the opener of the ECF....now they have a 1-0 lead in the series.

the Flyers are at a disadvantage, having lost one of their best players to a season ending injury.

Yeah when they had Mario and Jagr they were more finesse, even though they had some bruisers on the team like the Samuelsson brothers.....

This team is very physical. They have some finesse with Crosby and Malkin, but they are definitely out there to bring the pain. Hossa was a great addition. I hope they can lock him up to a long term deal. Fleury is one helluva goalie, and their defense is awesome. I hope I don't jinx them...hehehe

Penguins win 4-1........now they are up 3-0 in the series....

One more win and we get the Wings for the Cup.

Dang that game was harsh last night. They gave up 3 in the first and lost 3-2.....so now they are up 3-1.

At least Detroit lost game 4 as well....so now both series are going 5 games.

We're goin to the Cup.....We're goin to the Cup

Penguins win 6-0 in game 5 to eliminate the Flyers 4-1 in the ECF.......

well game 1 of the Stanley Cup sucked if you are a Pens fan. They lost 4-0, but it should have been 5-0. The refs waived off a Wings goal in the 1st on a bogus interference call. I am a Pens fan and felt the goal should have counted.

At any rate, the Pens played timid and scared. The Wings were very physical and very aggressive all game long. Osgood is a beast as a goaltender. If the Pens don't start playing a more physical game, they are going to get used and abused by the Wings.

Woooooooohooooooooooo

Penguins win 3-2....and are now down 2-1 in the series.

After 2 very uninspired efforts in Detwaw where they were officially outscored 7-0, but unofficially 8-0 (Detroit was robbed of a goal in game 1)......the Pens showed some heart and moxie.....they came out firing and hitting in game 3.

That was a great game.

That was the first hockey game that I have ever watched. I loved it. But I have a queston, what is the "Power Play" that has the countdown during different times in the game?

When a player on the opposing team goes into the penalty box, they aren't allowed to replace him with another player so they are shorthanded for the remainder of his penalty time. So if he's in there for two minutes, it's 4 on 5 for two minutes. The team with 5 players is on a "power play" and has a huge advantage.

If they score within that time, the power play ends and it goes back to 5 on 5. If they don't score and the time passes, the player returns to the ice and it returns to 5 on 5.

In that situation they also remove icing for the shorthanded team, so they can get rid of the puck if it's deep in their territory.

I will use these two teams. At full strength, both teams have 5 players + 1 goalie on the floor at any given time. If a Pittsburgh player commits a penalty, he goes to the penalty box. This gives the Red Wings a Power Play. This means that the Red Wings have a 5-4 advantage for 2 minutes (minor) or more (major). I dont know how long a major is, cause I have never seen a major before.

A short-handed goal is a goal scored by the team who is defending the Power Play. So if the Red Wings would have been on the Power Play and the Penguins scored, it would have been a short-handed goal.

Honestly, the one rule that I had trouble comprehending for the longest time, mainly cause I was too lazy to look it up, was icing.

I've been a casual fan at best - seems like they've modified the icing rule in recent years, but maybe I'm thinking of the passing rule.
