Surreal For Phillies Phans While Lightening Is Caught In A Bottle For Their Phillies
June Harper broke his thumb ironically at San Diego
Out for 2 months
June was the last time the Phil's swept a series away~
July was the last time they swept a series at home against a winning team~
Joe Girardi had the club buried deep in the NL East standings w/a sagging bullpen, defensive deficiencies & slumbering starts from some of the team's high-priced veterans, Girardi paid the price for Philadelphia's poor start 22-29 & was fired in
June while Rob Thompson takes over as the interim coach~
Ten games remaining, take them out back & put them out of their misery, after all , they had just lost 4 consecutive games against the horrific Cubs~
Out of the blue, they made a wildcard first time in postseason since 2011 & the club's FO take away the word "interim" from Thompson & make him the Phil's new skipper. Fans are like "what"
~
The under dogs fly to play the first place St. Louis Cards only to sweep them Philadelphia goes nuts~
The under dogs take another flight to visit the heavily favored World Champion Braves, they steal a game & head home w/the series tied. They shut down Atlanta's rookie who was 5-0 in playoff elimination starts & 2 other pitchers by the bottom of the 4th. Some say had Castellanos not have made that unbelievable catch, the Phil's may have blown that game, but instead won, 7-6.
Back home Citizens Bank Park is rocking, not a fan sitting as the Phil's clubber the Braves 8-3 while A. J Realmuto becomes the first catcher in the majors post season history to hit an inside the park home run first Phil's to have ever done so in postseason. They were 7-11 against the Braves in the regular season.
They head into the NLCS for the first time since 2010 by flying out to San Diego who nicely knocked out those much hated Dodgers~
Just 8 more wins! If they don't make it any further I'm fine with that, after all, seeing them shut down the Braves was in Philly, was absolutely PRICELESS!
A sympathy card has been sent!
