Going for 2 costs us Guyton

Going for 2 is an absolute no-brainer in that instance.

Forget the models, you need to limit the number of times the opponent gets the ball. If you have a chance to win the game by getting only one stop, you take it.

As absolutely horrible as last night went, imagine if Dallas made that 2 point play and Bland held onto the ball and had a pick six.

Would have went from a faith shattering loss to an undeserved win, but we all would have taken it.

So if we went away from dak and got another qb and we started winning and made it to the Super Bowl, what would be said?

"He's just lucky; the team carried him." "Yeah, but does he have stats like the Padder?" "I hate him; I wish the choker was back"

None of us has to agree, but analytics and statistics say go for 2.
Going for 2 is closer to a 50% deal. So down by 14, analytics say go for 2. If you miss it, odds are with you that you will make the second one and still be tied. However, if you make it the first time, you now have higher odds of actually winning the game.
Analytics are wrong then and don’t account for other effects. Because we missed the conversion, once we got the ball back do you go fast or slow? Go fast and convert the 2 to tie, then you leave them time to get a fg. If you go slow to melt the clock then you miss the conversion the game is over. I’d rather have that decision at the end.
If you kick that xp and get the ball back, you go slow to melt the clock and score with as little time as possible then you know you either have the tie or go for the 2 to win but either way the team isn’t going have time to respond.

I think the analytics are that odds of win or tie are better since you could win and still have a chance to tie whereas going for 1 means your best chance is a tie.

People say wait to the second TD to make that decision, but then you are only playing for a win or loss because if you miss you already went for 1 on the first TD.

By going for 2 on TD one you know if you can just kick on TD two or if you need to go 2 again.
Why not kick the extra point first and then, IF you scored a second TD, decide if you want to go for 2?

Going for 2 and failing, IMO, is a huge momentum swing cause it puts unnecessary pressure on your team to play perfect going forward.

That was the safe way, but when you are behind and your QB is choking up a storm, you have to gamble because you're afraid he can't beat the other team.

Umm, the analytics are based on statistical results from years of previous games.

It is stupid to think they are stupid.

These are facts. As clear as day.

I know some grownups are telling you differently, but facts do actually matter.
The result of a game played 10 years ago by completely different players, coaches, rules conditions and circumstances at different points of a game has zero influence on the present. Analytics are informational, but situational nuance is coaching.

Noooooooo. U need two TD for sure. Going for two is riskier than a PAT. So, with the first TD, if u kick it, then if you score the next time, u STILL have the chance to go for two and win, OR, u can kick a field goal and go to OT…..two options. What if their QB got injured on their position? We stop them and then drive for that second TD and ALL the momentum is in our favor…..so kick it and go into OT with a humming offense while their O fell apart….its an option. Again, u can still just go to 2 at the very end, the SECOND touchdown.

If you go for 2 the first TD, the risker choice….and you don’t make it, then u painted yourself into a corner…,now u MUST make the 2 just to freakin tie the game! U have no second option. Why would u take the risker play the first time when u can be safe and more secure and STILL have the same opportunity to win the game with a 2pt conversion with the second touchdown? Why not give yourself options at the end and see how the last 5 min goes? Anything can happen…as I said their QB could go out the next time they have the ball or something. This was a dumb choice by Schotty, no reason to do the risky play on the first TD and possibly sabotage the second td when u can still do the 2 on the second td….none.

What if it went exactly as it did except Bland gets the pick 6. They now have to convert the second 2-point to avoid losing

It’s safer and smarter. If u miss the 2 on the first try, u painted yourself into a corner for the second td. If you kick a pat, then u still have a CHOICE on the second td….u can still go for 2 and win, OR, if u want u can kick to tie and play overtime. What if the Bucs qb went down on their possession before Dallas second td? What if they were flat out stuffed and we went right down to score the second td? Momentum….then maybe OT isn’t such a bad option. But u don’t even have an option at all because they messed up the 2 pt on the first td. No reason to do that when u can still do it on the second td while also having the option to tie. Leave yourself options for the second and be safer with the first td. Schotty was dumb for taking the risky play on the first td instead of the second.

but we have dak......you go safe and kick it.......another good qb, you go for it.....

Shootenheimer is a cheerleader and has no business being a head coach. The only thing that he could be thinking is we're not going to win anyway, so let's practice our two point conversion play.

This reminds me whenever Dave Campo decided to go for two or decided not to, I can't remember but it was a bad decision and a reporter called him out on it.

I've never seen anybody go for two in that situation. Just dumb, almost as dumb as getting to the 1 yard line and throwing 3 straight passes. I've seen Shoddy do that repeatedly.

Dak just drove us down to win it last week. He drove us 99 yards for a td before the messed up 2pt, he drove us down to the goal line against the Ravens only for Schotty to tell him to throw it out of bounds. He’s capable of doing it. The fact is we needed two TD for sure anyway, to win you have to go for 2 on one of them…,there’s no reason to go for 2 on the first TD when u can be safer and kick to make it a 7 point game and still go for 2 on the next TD….vs doing what they did and being desperate to only tie with a two point conversion with the second TD. Zero reason to go for two on the first TD when they had to score again anyway and could have gone for two on the next one for the win. Unnecessary risk and it bit them.

I remember a guy on this board calling me stupid (I am but not for that reason) because I disagreed with going for 2 down 9 with a minute to go in a game. He claimed it was 100% right because the information you get is invaluable. I said we were never getting the ball back 2x in a minute so take the point and hope to get it back to be down 8.

Analytic statheads do not, as set out above, consider momentum, time of game etc.
The analytics types also do not take into account the specific defense you are playing against. Dak and Shottenheiner were confused most of the game by Tampa Bay’s defense.
