Not exactly sure of our success rate, I'm not a numbers guy. But we've had some success. My question is, before Mike became our coach, we didn't go for it much on 4th down. Do you like being more aggressive, would you have rather punted the ball in some instances?

What goes through your mind when we're about to snap the ball on 4th down??? Please give your thoughts...

we have had more failure. He nearly blew the Giant game. He DID blow the Packer game. We got lucky beating the Patriots last year after he failed on 4th. I recall a game last year when the Chargers went on 4th down 3 or 4 times, missed each time, lost by less than a score and missed the playoffs by one game.

McCarthy and other coaches need to stop this nonsense of being so gung ho all the time. Patience is a virtue. Its a game of ground control.

I'd go for it on 4th most downs. My game plan would be built around knowing im going for it on 4th.

I like it on the opponents side of the field. Hate it when it’s at our 40 or less.
I think the giants game he was dead wrong but once you pass the 50 there is not so much to lose
But who you are playing is also important
If your opponents offense is not a big threat I think punting is more of a defensive act
You play the chiefs and you need to be much more aggressive

It's a fine line and there are a lot of contributing factors involved but generally speaking and all things considered, I favor an aggressive attitude. It shows confidence in the team which can help build a team's confidence in itself.

Not anymore it isn't. With the rules against defense and teams being built around the big play it's a game of scoring. We are an aggressive team and go for it on 4th more than we have under past coaches. I like it most of the time. Sure, when you go for it and don't get it then the coach is dumb but when you do get it he's a genius and it puts a lot of pressure on the defense to try and stop the offense.

It's the way the league has gone. It's not just McCarthy. Teams go for it on 4th down much more than they ever have.

I made a post before you could earlier today, I was so proud of myself! The story about Washington 21 day practice!!!!

Why doesn't every team do what Philly is doing on 4th down with that big rugby scrum? It's unstoppable.

Here you go thinking again!!! Sorry this team doesn't think, this would be too easy rod. For us we'd have someone going in motion, too many men on the field, holding, false start that would negate us, PUNT!!!

..I'm all for it. I think MM wants to build momentum early.
Dallas has such good.offense, they will have success more than not.
You can almost feel when a 4th down play should be called.

I wonder if the competition committee figures out a way to outlaw that.

It's like a money play in Madden.

I've been either on board or on the fence with most of the decisions to go for it on 4th down, but I thought the one on our first possession against the Giants was a horrible decision. In my mind the Cowboys were clearly the better team, and the only chance the Giants had to win was if they got some breaks. The Cowboys gave the Giants a chance to get one of those breaks, and they took advantage. Fortunately, the defense stepped up and held them to a FG

Didn't like going for it on 4th in the Giants game. It was way too early to act desperate, and way too risky considering where they were as far as field position. You have a good punter and you can pin them in inside their 10. Plus if you were going to go for it on 4th down, why would you not run the ball on 3rd and short instead of passing. Whole thing was stupid. That with Moore calling so many early pass plays - thought they were trying to give the damn game away, lol.
