Going secondary in the draft?

I know this is unpopular, especially after Claiborne, but the way I see it our 4 biggest needs are 1 tech DT / 1 DE / 1 CB / and a FS. I look around at the free agent pool and there is no one who can be had cheaply that would really be an upgrade in the secondary, but there are a few guys I see that might be good on our d-line. Therefore, if the guys are there, wouldn't it make sense to think about going secondary say 2 times in the first 2 days and try to sign some reasonably priced guys for our d-line in free agency?

Byron Maxwell may not break the bank and he is a good zone CB.

True... but I don't see us staying a zone team with Marinelli gone. Other than our #4 CB we just don't really have the personal for it... man sometimes I wish the draft came before free agency.

P.S. I also wouldn't be surprised if he was the highest paid CB in free agency this year. Everyone else is too old or too beat up. Being one of the few CBs worth anything is certainly going to make his value go up.

It has nothing to do with Claiborne but we have to upgrade the pass rush big time this off season. Yes we need a FS and at least 1 very good CB to replace Carr I understand that. But that pass rush isn't ready to win championships.

Agreed, but I would rather try to get the pass rush in FA and the secondary in the draft, then vice versa.

CB could very well be our first rounder. In a strong DE, weak CB draft i dont see teams reaching for a CB over a DE. I could see the #2 CB in the draft sitting there at our pick.

Going back to Man, our CB situation would look less grim. I think Carr can be renegotiated and Claiborne played much better in a Man scheme then he did in Zone. Actually looked promising as a rookie. However neither of those two are long term solutions.

This is true, but we need some player turnover in the secondary as well. Our future looks very grim there. Claiborne is a FA next season and Carrs contracts is just too rich. Add to that Scandricks deal is up after 2016

Good cornerbacks can be selected in the third through fifth rounds.

Dallas focus should be front seven (especially DT & DE).

But they still need another offensive lineman, running back, & QB.

There are a lot of decent CBs scheduled to be free agents.

Obviously even with a free agent or keeping Carr with a pay cut, they need more depth and talent up high upsides at CB.

They can free up 8M if they make Carr a June 1st cut. They can likely add a replacement free agent for a cap hit of less than 8M. Replacing Carr shouldn't affect getting a pass rusher.

Good point. If they choose to draft a CB thenTrae Waynes of MSU might be there. He had a great 3 yr stint in college. Most draft sites have him being taken low- mid 20s
Im all for BPA as long as that guy is w Dlinemen or CB

I don't see the #1 rated CB lasting till pick 27 and please no more trading up for a CB. We do need more CB help, be interesting if we cut Carr or he takes a pay cut. I think JG/Rod will want him to stay as he seems to be a good locker room presence.

I think we have to. I just think we don't need to draft CB's high and we don't need to look for 'cover corners' because our scheme is different. But, we have to take into account that Carr is likely gone, Claiborne is terrible in this scheme and Scandrick may have to be released after 2015. That would leave us with Patmon and Moore after 2015.

Guilty... i was implying to trade up for him. Just love him but I see your point, especially after the Claiborne debacle

Why are we all looking past the fact we need a FS. Its one of hardest positions to hit on. We can go quantity in this draft on dline.
