I don't play golf, but I had a friend who worked on a golf course here from highschool into some of college.

In the summer after my freshman year of college, I worked part time at the course where my Dad was the pro... on one hot August Saturday, we were hosting a corporate tournament, and I was working the scoreboard, putting up the numbers as the players turned their cards in... this was not what you'd call hard work...

That course was a small facility, it didn't have a driving range... instead, it had a net, where golfers could hit balls before the round to loosen up... that net was right beside the scoreboard...

So I'm sitting in the cool shade, waiting for the next group to bring their cards in, sipping on some lemonade, when I hear BAM!!!... some hacker using the practice net had missed the net altogether, and smacked the scoreboard near where I was sitting...

I called out to the guy to be careful, and he apologized, said he would... and about 30 seconds later, he missed the board again...

This time, he broke one of my ribs... and my dear old Dad, he thought that was funny... until he got the emergency room bill...

I should have sent him the dry cleaning bill for the golf shirt I was wearing, it ended up with lemonade all over it, but I figured I'd better not push my luck... :D

I live on a golf course and have never even played the game. :D
The guys who do, talk about it with such passion, there must be something to it,

Golf is the msst frustrating, humiliating, sadistic SOB of a game ever created, it had to have been invented by the ancestors of concentration camp guards...

It's also the most fun I've ever had, with my pants on...

Anyway, I finally got to where I was driving the ball 225-250 yards consistently, and straight. My biggest problem is keeping my head down at the point of contact.

The trick is to not worry about the ball. (or where it's going) Just concentrate on the swing itself. That is where everyone goes wrong. It's like driving and talking on a cell phone at the same time. You're driving sucks while you're on the phone, so don't do it. Same with Golf, don't worry about where the ball, worry about the swing and you will become a much better golfer.

Started learning golf. I messed around with it years and years ago but only really played one game, if you could call it that.

Took my first lesson from a PGA Golf pro. He had me driving balls for over an hour. Man, who knew your body would be sore after that?

Anyway, I finally got to where I was driving the ball 225-250 yards consistently, and straight. My biggest problem is keeping my head down at the point of contact.

Any golfers here that have any tips for a beginner?

Practice, Practice and Practice. Also try and spend as much time as you can working on the short game, it will help to reduce big numbers on your score card
