This is where I got my training. I still havent finished my degree, but I got enough training in the Navy to get my current profession. I am an electronics tech on a drilling rig. I will never be wealthy, but I make more than I can spend. Not my wife mind you... She's pretty good at proving me wrong in this department.

IT depending on what exact area you want to go into. Now, don't get me wrong, you still need an education in the subject. It just doesn't have to be a college degree.

Programming, you may need to one to make *good* money.

A support engineer, probably not.

System admin, network admin, etc. You might or might not. Some businesses require them, but not all. I will hire a guy without college if he can show me knows his **** and takes pride in his work. (ie, won't half *** his work) During my career, I've seen people with masters degrees in CS replaced by high school grades who were far more qualified.

All the union electricians I knew made good money. It's a 4 year apprenticeship though so you will have classes.

Ain't that the truth.

IMO......take some form of course that will get you in the entry level door. Further your career on the dime of the employer. You may have to stay with the company for 1-3 years after you get a degree but it's all experience under the belt anyways.

I really feel for these college grads these days. They start off with $70-$100,000 debt in education loans. Ridiculous. Especially with the job market the way it is currently. We've got folks with masters applying for associates positions just cause they need the work.
