It must be nice to be a teacher where you live then. Where I'm from teachers make half that.

New York has pretty high salaries for public employees. Cost of living around 80,000 would be around 60,000 in most parts of the country... My dad pays 8,500 a year on school taxes alone his friends in PA pay under 2,000.

Dunno where they are getting these ^ at, since in this area, you have to have certification for these fields, and they teach the med classes at the college. In this area you also have to have either 4yrs honorable discharge from the military, or a BA (in anything) to be hired on in the police dept, before they will even send you to Richmond to the Academy. As for the Avionics jobs, it's NOT cheap to earn that type of experience and be liscenced.

Depends what your going for. Accounting, Nursing, Engineering are insanely hot careers right now that are worth the investment for college.

They say that, but in some areas, there are over saturations, and RN's are being forced to take other medical related jobs to make ends meet, since there aren't any RN jobs available. My area is one of them, but then again the majority of the RN's in this area only have an Associates Degree before they take the RN cert.

Only around 40% of RN's have a BSN these days.

a bachelors in Nursing can get you a job pretty much anywhere in the country you want to live, at good salaries too. It's not a bad way to go, a hospital by me you work 3 days a week, 12 hours a day and you'll make $65-70k a year.

There are teachers in Greenwich, CT (and Rye, NY) that make over $150,000. The Greenwich superintendent makes $230,000

Oh I know! I am working on my CRNA. Starting income is usually between 130-170K/year.

Thanks! This field revolves around surgical, more than just standard patient care. Most CRNA's work in hospitals w/o a Dr of anesthesia, and the CRNA does it all, the surgical Dr supervises.

I'm going for the Master's option first, and who knows maybe in a few years go and finish it off with a Doctorate.

If you are a nurse or studying to be a nurse.

Anchorage, Alaska is one of the biggest markets hiring registered nurses.

None of what's going on in the 48 is impacting Alaska. People are working all over the place up here and unemployment is low considering the economy. I think our UE rate is sitting around 7.3-7.5%.

Anyways...lots of jobs here in the state.

For the love of all that's holy; DO NOT let my husband find that out. ARGH, he would have us packed and moved in 2 weeks time if he could. The only reason he is still in Ky, is cause if he moved, he would go w/o me or the munchkin. Alaska is TOO COLD for my Southern blood, lol!

There's no way I can swing temps like you guys get, the high to low is too much (where I look it ranged from 100 to -60), the heat I can handle, the freezing cold, I can't do.

Um, if you have the opportunity and you like taking care of people... that is a very lucrative field and should continue to be in the future.........

LOL. Yeah, we rope goats and we all wear boots. And we could, if we wanted to, sustain ourselves with our own resources. If you mess with our bulls, you go straight to jail for cattle rustling and possibly face the DP.

A person can definitely have a nice career in IT without a degree but you have to be really good. I have several friends in this field that make 90k+ without a degree but that is far from the norm. Having a degree will open doors for you sooner than without. Also it is common the person with the degree with the same experience as a person without the degree will be paid more for doing the same job.
