I was checking out the hangover food thread and I wrote a novel about my drinking habits, or lack thereof, and I got to thinking...what do I really enjoy most every now and again with a good steak, or any other good savory meal? A beer.

So I got to thinking...what's your favorite beer, and if it's not your favorite, what's a good beer that I really should try sometime? My "go-to" beer is Heineken, but if I could actually find it in the US I would definitely keep some nice cold Warsteiner Dunkel in the fridge. (if you know where to find it in West Georgia, let me know NOW!)

So, what's your favorite non-mainstream beer?

Probably my all time favorite is Belhaven Scottish Ale. Big bottle, big taste. Closer to home, I always liked the Mexican brew, Negro Modelo.

I liked the old Celis wheatbeers, but haven't tried any since the Miller Brewing company takeover and subsequant closure and sale of the brand to another brewery.

I also love Belhaven Scottish Ale. Here are some others I enjoy:

Smithwicks
Boddingtons
Red Hook ipa
newcastle
shiner kosmos

if you enjoy heineken, may I suggest some Grolsch?

it's pretty similar...a little more skunky in taste. Very good!

Back in my drinking days one of the beers I really enjoyed was Amstel Light. My Dad used to buy that for family parties and holidays. Maybe it wasn't the beer at all, maybe I enjoyed it because my family was together and thats the only time I drank it.

Pirminator (German). Awesome beer. Wish you could even find it outside the Rheinland-Pfalz state in Duetschland.

cant believe people actually like belhaven. if you're drinking one of our ales you should try and find fraoch or one of the hebridean brewing companies or isle of arran beers.
also light beer of any kind does not belong in a conversation about good beer.
really like lowenbrau but its hard to find outside of bavaria

Sam Smith's Organic Lager...too bad I cannot find it anywhere in the DC area except when I go to Fogo de Chao!

My "go-to" beer(s): Yuengling, Modelo, or Red Stripe...whichever I'm in the mood for

If you are in the DC area and want an obscure beer, then you should try the Bourbon Stout out at the Old Dominion brewery! You can't buy it anywhere else but at the brewery in Ashburn and it is quite nice!

Modelo is very good stuff. Both Especial and Negra Modelo.

I'll have to check them out! I hope being close to the Skins practice facility (in Ashburn) doesn't cause their beer to turn "skunky"! :D

I'm really on the Modelo kick right now...very good flavor and it goes down smooth!
