Cincinnati seems to have gotten much better after some recent top picks, so I guess it does work. San Francisco got much better after top picks used on defense. Philadelphia basically threw a game for a better draft spot, got rid of their starting QB and ate a huge chunk of salary, stockpiled 1st round picks and seems to be heading in the right direction. So there’s that…

At home, maybe. But I don't see us beating the 49ers or Eagles on the road, let alone both of them. Nothing easy about that. Those two teams can run the ball really well.

If the Cowboys cannot succeed in the postseason this year, then there is no reason to hold onto any player over 27. Just scrap the older players and rebuild. No matter what happens in the regular season.

Yeah, why should Dallas ever keep a player over 27?

I’m trying to remember the last time a team built around a QB for over 7 years and suddenly started making championship games and winning or appearing in Super Bowls. Peyton Manning comes to mind, but he had already been to a championship game by this point. John Elway had 3 Super Bowl appearances and then won much later but made a championship game by this point.

This core needs to do it this year or it should be blown up. Because the norm says they should have done something more by now.

Regardless of the competition in the playoffs. I have been told several times to enjoy the ride and I am enjoying this surprising season.

Lots of poor football being played in the league currently. Professional players should not lose games like the Saints lost last night. The series before the Bucs first touchdown drive should have ended all hopes. The pathetic run out of bounds by Ingram and attempt at the pass on 3rd down and 1 yard should be grounds for instant termination.

Brady and Rodgers both seem to be at their very final years. I’m surprised Brady has remained so healthy these past several years but then you look at his release time and realize he is not going to hold the ball long enough to really take many more shots. Mahomes and KC or Burrow and the Bengals seem to be the closest thing to a super team (I guess you could include Allen/Bills).

This is the most wide open potential playoff field I have witnessed since 1996. If the Cowboys cannot succeed in the postseason this year, then there is no reason to hold onto any player over 27. Just scrap the older players and rebuild. No matter what happens in the regular season.
The league is wide open but scrap everyone over 27 and get in cap hell.

Context. The team has has long enough to achieve postseason success past the divisional round. This season is a much, much, easier path without any clearly more dominant squads to face. They aren’t going to get easier paths than this. I love Martin, but would start over if the core cannot get it done this year.

If doing it right means never making a championship game appearance, I’m not sure I want the team to do it right by your definition.

Yep. If the squad is going to do anything more in the postseason, then it needs to happen this year. You might have to hold a veteran for another year or two to get more salary off the books-but should look for creative ways to gather 1st rounders and rebuild if they fail again.

Against teams a team we wiped the floor with and another we're about to defeat.
We wiped the floor with Tampa? That's our first round opponent and Brady is our kryptonite.

If anyone disagrees with this being the year, they are the same ones always defending our 7 year QB. There is no logic in keeping him around or anyone else with value to continue another year of disappointment. If we lose, it’s time to go in a different direction. Here’s my reasoning on Dak and age https://overthecap.com/age-and-the-success-of-the-nfl-qb

What does age have to do with it? Why not just continue to try and upgrade the roster to get better.

You start moving guys like Tank and Martin and the team gets worse, not better.

Age is just a way to decide if they would be part of a rebuild. Rebuild could take 2-4 years. The older players that have good trade value could help expedite the process. Stockpile high picks. Keep doing it. Major upgrades for a roster typically happen with multiple picks in rounds 1-3. Either picking the player in the draft, or trading for a young known veteran.

Going to face good teams no matter what in the playoffs. Might as well be round 1. This is not the first year Brady/Bucs. Not sure the guy who commented was referring to the Bucs.

Why 27? Why not 26, 28 or 29?

Seems like a very unique reasoning.

Also, if you want to truly rebuild and get better in 2-4 years get ready to say bye to the players that’ll actually net you a return. Martin, Parsons, Diggs, Lamb etc…

At our best, we would beat any team at their best. But we never seem to be able to muster our best against the Bradys and Rodgers. The Brady who played the last 6 minutes Monday night is still the same as ever. 75 years old or not.

For sure, the league likes to keep games close for ratings, being able to finish games on defense or offense is a prerequisite for contention that very few teams have. Parity is a suger-coated way of describing a league of crappy football teams. When your team fails to even get a first down on game winning drives you know that you're not a contender.

Bill Belichick he would always trade the player before the players worth went down. So I understand the theory and agree to it somewhat. We could get two first for Mike Parsons, but would I probably not , well it depends actually lol but I would not get rid of everybody

Quite true. If good teams win, the Cowboys would have beat the lowly Packers
Lol. So true you have to play the game. I don’t care how great you are you can lose to the worst team in the league.

Cincinnati got better because they drafted a bonafide star at QB. His #1 WR going down for a month and he didn’t miss a beat.
