Greg Ellis's injury hurt, but its nice to know we have a talented first round backup OLB.
Anyone still mad we drafted BC?

Don't you know that 9 games in to his rookie season he's already a bust?

point well taken on the early bust prediction...

nevertheless whether he can fill ellis' shoes remains to be seen, i think.

It's way too early for the bust label but now he has his chance to prove it

yes we have good depth at OLB. but going into the season we didn't know what to expect from Ellis.what we got was a bonus.

also, but i wasn't too happy on us getting TO but now that Glenn is hurt, i like our chances more with TO than with Key

I said it last week and I'll say it again, you always draft to your strength.

Even though the Giants lost yesterday, I think they are still glad they took the Kiwanuka (sp?) kid.

At least you can say that we are probably the only team who can lose a major contributor and replace him with a first round draft pick.

It will be interesting to see how he does thats for sure.

I think the selection of an outside linebacker certainly appears justified now.

However, it's now in Carpenter's hand to prove that HE was the right OLB to pick.

I'm sure Carpenter will see some more nickel pass rush situations, but its unlikely he starts at SOLB in their base defense. More likely AlS or Burnett.

Here are some Vela comments on Carpenter from his blog...

Okay Kid, It’s Showtime

By Rafael Vela

I reviewed some of Bobby Carpenter’s play against the Cards and was impressed with his last series.

Dallas had the game in hand and was conducting a pass rushing drill, running its nickel 4-2-5 at Matt Leinart to protect a 27-10 lead. On the first two plays, Carpenter bullrushed Cards RT Reggie Wells. He was shut down.

On the third play, Carpenter pushed inside then spun outside Wells and broke free. He got within a step of Leinart. On the next play, he started wide then countered inside and wrapped up Leinart, who was able to shot put a pass towards the flat and just avoid a sack.

A very limited sample size. Carpenter had the benefit of a lead and was playing against a converted guard on one of the league’s weakest lines. Who knows if he has the speed and recognition skills to maintain or even approach Greg Ellis’ play. I’ll say this on his behalf — he showed a bigger rushing repertoire in those four plays than Demarcus Ware has shown in two years.

ouch

sad, but true

but the kid, Carp, has talent, and is going to be at his natural OLB position, and in the nickel to boot

In Carp's 10+ plays at LDE he showed us a couple different swim moves, a spin move, a bull rush, and a speed rush to the outside. He's got the moves down, so let's hope he has the athletic ability to overcome height disadvantage and short arms.
