Good value in this mock.

Physically they're about the same size (Higgins has an inch). Speed wise they're about the same. Both have good hands, both have explosive speed.

Biggest difference is that Ginn was in the spotlight at OSU, Higgins was off of many radars playing at UTEP. But having seen what he can do the last few years, Higgins is every bit the player Ginn is, w/ less hype which = cheaper to sign.

I would not be against picking someone like Ginn if we could be fairly certain he could give us what Hester gave the bears last year as regards return threat.

I'm a Higgins fan, too, and was pleased to see him improve on his 40-time at his pro day (4.3). His size works against him, especially since he's not known as a crisp route-runner. But the fact that he had the second best 3-cone time would seem to indicate he's got the ability to improve in that area. You can't discount Ginn's playmaking ability against top competition. But Higgins is a YAC machine and a playmaker in his own right and I agree he'd be a better value than Ginn available much later in the first day.

At this point I think that would be the smart move barring a player falling to us.

However that takes partners to do...I would also not rule out a trade up. Not saying I would want to give up picks but Jerry has tried to trade up or try to trade back up in the Julius Jones draft (tried to trade back up to get Kevin Jones) and in the Ware/Spears draft...thought they were going to miss out on spears and tried to trade up to get him.

Now if for some reason we could not trade up or down and we took Ginn I would not be upset and I will tell you why.

At this point there is not a must have position to draft. The closes at this point would be FS but I think Watkins can pan out at the position with an improved pass rush and a year of exp under his belt.

We also have two older WRs and normally a WR takes a year to get used to the NFL.

Ginn could be used in returns and he could be used in a 3 wr set on occasion.

People say he is small and will take time to learn the game, he would be given the chance to learn the game and improve on his route running abilities.

Look at these two players and what they did their first two years, I chose them as they are both smaller WRs with speed and elusive running abilities.

Santana Moss.

His first two years he had a total of 473 receiving yards and 4 TDs.
He actually had more yards in the return game with 495 yards and 2 TDs.

I think he has turned out ok since then.

Steve Smith

His first two years he had 1026 receiving yards (only 154 his first year) with 3 TDs (zero his first year).
He actually had more yards in the return game with 2002 yards and 2 TDs.

I think he turned out ok.

So I would not mind him if we took him. Nobody knows if he will turn out to be like those two down the road but I think he can wind up being pretty similar.

:signmast:

Sunday...or any day.....

Add in potential nickel back to the scenario, as he was touted as a shut down corner coming in.....

Most diversified player in the draft..can be anything you want IMO.

I see this as an equally viable option. I might add in the 'biggest difference' reference that perhaps Ginn being in the spotlight can be as much of a hinderence as an asset...

Ginn and Higgins are the playmaker types I'd love to see added.

I will not argue that he is a smallish guy...however it is hard to perform well at the combine when you have a foot injury from the bowl game.

I didn't think that Ginn did anything at either the combine or even OSU's proday yesterday?

I don't see Peterson getting past the Vikings. Could the Lions really pick another WR, and Cleveland picking Quinn? Doubt it. No way the Panthers take a TE in RD one either. They need LB and DE help big time.

Clayton said the entire Browns front office was very impressed with Quinn and were all over him. Wanting a private workout and such. Gonna be interesting.

If i can get Higgins in the 3rd, it probably makes more sense than Ginn in the first, considering how close they are physically.
