What did you see tonight. Thought the OL was pretty good considering a #3 at Center. Started bad, but thought they got better. Dez is going to be a 1st down machine. Can't imagine how good he and Miles will be together. Felix is a #1. Murray/Choice we have no worries in the run game.
Defense is a different story. Porous is how I would describe it. This is next years draft. Big NT, young corner and safety depth.

They need to do something about the DL. Jay Ratliff is not the same guy he was a few years ago and the ends are JAGs to the fullest extent. I did like Jason Hatcher, but other than that, just didn't see much out of them.

It's going to be a long year on defense watching Ratliff get driven 5 yards down the field over and over again.

The writing has been on the wall with his level of play in decline for the past two years.

I find it difficult to fault the secondary; they had good position on a number of pass plays, and the receiver simply made a difficult catch.

It's the front seven that's most troubling; they were dominated on run plays, and absolutely stymied on pass plays. There was very little pressure on McNabb.

It starts with the DL. They're doing absolutely nothing out there.

Focusing on the goods

Romo
Dez
Holley
Felix
Murray
Sensi

Good

First team O, line got pushed around a little early but they settled inn

Bad

Defense minus Sensy, he was good today the rest not so much

Kool Aid drinkers will tell you otherwise.

Good: Romo, Dez, Radway. Bad has already been touched on.

Problems:

O-Line strength. Against a 3-4 NT I think Dallas' guards/current center will get destroyed. Against 4-3 DL they are not dominating but with time they will likely all get better/stronger.

Igor: What a liability that guy is ****
Spears is a HUGE loss when he's out. Linemen were getting up on Dallas' linebackers (1st team) almost every play and a team like the Jets will run the ball 40 times if they are dominating like that.

Health
Need some guys back like Buehler for kickoffs if nothing else,
Miles please be back 9/11
Spears
Costa
Jenkins

Will need these guys

Defense is a disaster, holes everywhere tonight in the runnning game you could drive a truck through, no push whatsoever.. and people don't know where to lineup..going to be a long year on defense, 4 or 5 pieces not on this team yet that's needed..probably get better towards mid season but this team is going to lose games early because they're just not ready at all for the regular season

Last year Rat declined but I don't know where you get this last 2 years stuff. In 09 he was unstoppable. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for this year until I actually see him playing poorly in meaningful games with a defense that has actually grasped the new system (and when someone not named Igor is not starting next to him).

His pass rush was okay in 2009 but his run defense had started to slip.

Bad: Yes, the front 7 and particularly the DL looked soft.

Good: Romo looked very crisp. Good night for some of the young receivers (Holley, Johnson, Radway) again. No shakiness with any of the kickers. Choice had a good night for his return (though penalties brought back much of his yardage).

Ratliff needs to be an end not a NT

Let's remember that Spears being out put Olshansky back in the lineup.

The starting line of Spears, Ratliff and Coleman was very solid last week against the run.

The problem is there seems to be a definite drop-off when we lose one of those guys.

Spears may be the most underrated player on our team.

The starting Oline impressed me. 3 rookies. Romo did look a little uncomfortable out there early but after a couple of drives he look more settled and that's when he started hitting Dez and Witten rather easily. There is some solid potential there and it's GREAT seeing these young guys get a chance to play w/ the starters... that has to be Garrett's doing.

Also, how about the balance in the playcalling? 61 plays: 29 rushing, 32 passing. That's a heck of a lot more balanced than we've seen the last few years. I like the idea of seeing Jones, Murray, (and maybe Choice, Tanner, etc) as pass catchers more as well.

Kowalski did well, especially for a guy I didn't even really know of before the game started. Nagy continues to do well. I think our offense could function if we found ourselves in a position where we had to actually rely on these two.

How are we hitting on so many young linemen now? I've always been amazed at how other teams seemed to manage just plugging in no-name guys on the O-line, but we only had turn styles as backups.

Kowalski did okay, considering he's a rookie UDFA. But I went back and watched and counted four times in the first half that his man broke free into the backfield.

I agree he's got some potential, and he battled hard. But he just didn't look ready to me tonight. Having to rely on him would really worry me. For Romo's sake. I don't want any more bones sticking out of his earhole this year.

I agree with you about Nagy - he looked solid and I could see him starting this year at some point.
