Goods/Bads

Kowalski did well, especially for a guy I didn't even really know of before the game started. Nagy continues to do well. I think our offense could function if we found ourselves in a position where we had to actually rely on these two.

How are we hitting on so many young linemen now? I've always been amazed at how other teams seemed to manage just plugging in no-name guys on the O-line, but we only had turn styles as backups.

Good camp, better practices/more intensity, and young guys getting a shot to work with the 1st team, builds confidence.

A lot of people will tell you that Rat is an All Pro NT and any talk of him moving to DE is nonsense. I'm not one of them. A 3-4 defense needs an immovable rock in the middle of its front, and Ratliff isn't it.

Is there anyone on the team who can do that job or do we need to go to a full time hybrid 4-3?

Good

The starting OL did a nice job pass protecting once they settled down. That's a real good defensive front they faced in a hostile environment.

Dr. Romo....Dr. Romo....report to the emergency room. Dr. Romo, to the emergency room. He was performing surgery out there. Amazing what he can do when he actually has a pocket to work in.

Dez is Dez. There's no reason why he can't be one of the most dominant players in all of football as soon as this season.

Jessie Holley has caught Jason Hatcher disease. I don't know what's gotten into those two but they look like completely different, and now productive, players.

Bad

Our DL just isn't able to collapse the pocket. The QB's we face are still too comfortable. The league is littered with QBs who can beat you when given that kind of time.

Martellus Bennett reminded us again of why he'll never be what his skill set says he should be. Hopefully the injury causes him to lose his job as the #2 TE. Don't need him. Don't want him. Let him go rule the world in another NFL city.

Another game where our DBs are in a perfect position to make a play on the football and fail. Elam, Scandrick, Thomas...they all had their chances.

This has been a concern for a few years, Rat, for all his effort and tenactiy is simply not big enough to play NT long term. He needs to move over to DE which would kill two birds with one stone....they move him into Igor's spot and get rid of that big stiff. Brent could start and hopefully they can find some via trade or on the waiver wire who can spot the young guy.

Defense is a disaster, holes everywhere tonight in the runnning game you could drive a truck through, no push whatsoever.. and people don't know where to lineup..going to be a long year on defense, 4 or 5 pieces not on this team yet that's needed..probably get better towards mid season but this team is going to lose games early because they're just not ready at all for the regular season

Could you imagine what a team with a good running back could do to this defense. That Peterson guy never has beaten a good Dline, but he ran on us like he was the best in the league.

....wait, nevermind.

That guy is a player. Nagy is tough, smart, extremely athletic, and he understands how to block with leverage and use angles. That is straight from Garrett.

It was Nagy who pan-caked that Vikings player on Felix Jones TD.

I watched that play several times...pretty fun to watch. It looked like Nagy, Kowalski and Free all ended up laying on top of their men as Felix went by. The fullback got a good seal. Bennett drove his guy into the endzone. Smith came across and shoved a linebacker off balance.

That 11 yard run by Felix on the second drive (the one that ended in a field goal) was fun to watch as well. Kowalaski did pancake his guy. Meanwhile, Nagy drove his guy down, out, back across the line of scrimmage and the guy ended up on the Cowboys side of the line of scrimmage, facing away from the play with Felix already downfield.
