interesting concept but you need a Nexus phone.I might try it next year after i get out of my contract.

I have Google Fi. I signed up when I got the new Nexus 5X.

Here is the thread I created about it recently

I switched from Verizon. The coverage on one of the highways I use isn't as good as Verizon was, but it is kind of in a Forrest area and not a lot of people.

Overall though, it's been pretty good. I cut my bill from $90/month to $31. (the $20 for unlimited voice and text, and $10 for the 1GB of data)

The best thing about it is I can subscribe to the just one GB of data, but if I go over, they just bill me the next month at $1 per 100MB. So if I use 1.5GB, my next bill will be $36 rather than $31. Can't beat that!

Oh and they never throttle you no matter how much data you use. They just bill you for it the following month and the free tethering owns too.

Seems like kind of a ripoff, at least for me. I am using Cricket, which uses the ATT network, which is superior to Tmobile or Sprint. Also, the price is much cheaper for me.

Cheaper than $30 for unlimited talk and text + 1GB of data? Does Cricket allow WiFi calls?

Project Fi is T-Mobile + Sprint + WiFi Calling/Texting/Data and absolutely no data throttling. Data overages charged at $1 per 100MB and there is no charges against Data when you use WiFi.

I would like to understand what part of Project Fi is a "ripoff" as you say. It stomps all the major carriers price wise.

Edit: I see it's $35 for unlimited talk and text + 2.5GB of data. Slightly cheaper. I suppose the difference is with Cricket you get access to AT&T. Project Fi, you get access to T-Mobile and Sprint's network.

Yeah, I pay $35 for per line, with no taxes or fees. I have no need for WIFI calling, although I do see how that could be appealing. To get the same service with Google Fi, I would have to pay $45 + taxes and fees, so it would work out to over $50. Google Fi needs to be more competitive with other MNVOs, and not with the big 3, like Tmo, Sprint, and Verizon. I think ripoff was too harsh of a term. I should have just said it's not a good of a deal, when compared to other MNVOs.

There are already MNVOs that offer better pricing, like Cricket, MetroPCS, Virgin Mobile, Boost Mobile, etc.

I don't know those services that well, but everyone I know that has MetroPCS cussing it like there is no tomorrow.

We'll, it is owned by T-Mobile, and runs on their network. If they're unhappy with metro, then they will likely be disappointed with Fi when it connects to T-Mobile.

Not true. First off, T-Mobile throttles everything under the sun for MetroPCS users and they play second fiddle to actual T-Mobile subscribers for normal services. Project Fi does not suffer from those limitations. Project Fi users are not throttled at all. It's part of the agreement between Google and T-Mobile/Sprint that they are absolutely not allowed to throttle their users and instead can bill them for overages at $1 per 100MBs per month.

Up until about 4-5 years ago. I was a loyal T-Mobile customer going well back in the the VoiceStream days. (late 90s) I only switched to Verizon because my service sucked riding the train into the city and I thought Verizon's better network could fix that. It improved a bit, but nothing of any real significance. It was better in many location when I wasn't on the train, but that was when Verizon was LTE and T-Mobile was still using the artificial 4G coverage. (HSPA+) Now that T-Mobile actually uses LTE, it's probably a much different story.
