Goose: Cowboys face a harsh reality; 2011 is a rebuilding year

I think the term "rebuilding year" is relative. For a franchise that is used to being a contender every year this team is more likely to just be striving to make the playoffs and that counts as a rebuilding year. One or more rookies will be starting, one or more bench warmers may get their shot to start, several JAGS may be brought in just to man a starting position.

Of course anything can happen, the planets may align and Red strikes gold on most of these new players and the defense masters the new philosophy by season's end,,, that's the beauty of our weak schedule, the team can mature over the course of the season and be in position to make noise in the playoffs.

I disagree with the assertion, too, but 6-10 and 13th place in the conference is not "almost making the playoffs".
THANK YOU. some of these homers are just unreal. this team was no where near a playoff team last year.

Goose is a perennial doom and gloomer. The Cowboys have holes to fill, but they have too many accomplished veterans to be considered rebuilding.

I agree. This is the same guy that claimed he always picked the home team...except he doesn't. Then came up with more convoluted excuses for him always picking against Dallas in 2007, when we went 13-3.

Stick to the draft.

YR

As long as we address the Safety position, we'll be fine and competing for the division title with anywhere b/t 9-11 wins.

They never learn. these are the same kind of comments that were being made about the mavericks. the window was completely shut. the point guard was too old. they didn't have enough scoring. The Chandler signing made things interesting but Dallas still didn't have a chance. yadda yadda yadda. Caron butler's injury killed our season. blah blah blahThe portland series was luck. The lakers beat themselves. The thunder also beat themselves. Miami was a lock to win it all. and then........fill in the blank. love when these guys start burying themselves so early.

We have a good group of core players that we are adding players to, I don't consider that rebuilding.

How do you have a top 5 qb, the best pass rusher in the league. a pro bowl WR and a Stud sophomore WR. Along with a bunch of other really talented players, but you're rebuilding??? how many other teams are rebuilding then? because you don't get much better than Romo/Miles/Dez on offense and DWare, Rat, Newman on defense. And we haven't even finished free agency yet!!!! What are these people smoking. how unprofessional is it to just assume something as major as this? Carolina = rebuildingCleveland = rebuildingBuffalo = rebuildingDallas isn't even in the same area code as these teams in terms of talent/potential.

Well we had one of the worst d's in the league last year and it has not been improved at all - unless you think Ryan can make magic happen.

And one of the very best Ds the year before that, with virtually all the same players.

They did play bad last year they also showed what they were capable of in 09. I make no excuses for how they played last season but I don't think it is a tell all about what this defense can do.

What a wack Job. This team is only a few positions away from making a title run. Remember we won our first playoff game in years with almost the same team. We just need to upgrade our damn safeties !!!

It might be more then this year unless we hit on the draft and hit again next year. The amount of dead money we have against the cap will make it hard to bring people inn the next few years.

At least on offense we seem to have done a decent job, but this D is terrible. We have quite a few holes and it doesn't look like we have the ability to fill them due to cap constraints

Unfortunately we aren't even doing any building. We are just signing and cutting players we already had while the top freeagents continue to slip away.

Every team has needs... The Cowboys are addressing theirs.

Are we? What new players have we gotten in free agency?

I think any time you have a guy like Dez Bryant and someone to throw it to him, you have a chance. Besides, you have no idea what kind of impact a guy like Rob Ryan could have on this defense.
We need to retool in some areas, but so does every team.

I was wondering the same thing. How exactly are we addressing our needs - by cutting players? I don't understand that statement...

Did FA come to an end? Dallas has done things they need to do like making room under the cap, getting some key players on the team we needed to address.

This is my thought as well. Will always have positions to fill or upgrade - every team has that every year. If we add a few players at certain spots we can be very competative this year.
