Why does Goose say alot of negative things about our team?

And on top of that, what were all these raving articles he wrote about Philly the last several months? Just like in the Philly media, Goose wrote how Jeremiah Trotter slimmed down, looked ALOT quicker/faster, and from the looks of TC, was a sure bet to make a BIG comeback this season.(of course, a couple of days ago was the FIRST time the contrary was let out)

Does he just not have anything to do but twiddle his thumbs?

I thought I read that Goose is a big Eagles fan. At least I read somewhere that he goes to a lot of Eagle games in Philly.

A little "word" on Goose. He gets all his draft info second hand, does NO research himself(by his own admission) , and he's built his VERY RECENT rep as a draft "guru" through others hard work and talent. In the animal world he'd be called a parasite, but i'd call him a pimp, myself. As far as his journalistic ability, i'd trust my paperboy...........

why do people expect "local" journalists to be cheerleaders?

it's not and never has been the job of the journalist to support the local team unless you're in a small town and you get fired if you don't.

there is being objective and then there is gosselin. sorry but his reporting on the cowboys shows him go out of his way to try and not be seen as procowboys.

For those of you that have this preconceived notion of Goose based on pure conjecture, might I suggest that you check it out for yourself by simply asking the guy what he's all about?

Gosselin, Rick <RGosselin@***BANNED-URL***>

Keep it civil and I promise that you can most definitely expect a reply from him.

First of all,Gosselin isn't a eagles fan.He is a Detroit Lions fan.Grew up in Michigan, and grew up a lions fan.Second,he attends different NFL games each week, where he covers the league for the dallas morning news,as their NFL beat writer. He pretty much will attend at least one game of every team in the league, except the Cowboys, because there are local beat writers that cover them for the morning news.He doesn't go to eagles games every week. Also for anyone who doesn't think he has anything good to say about the cowboys,he has said many times that he thought the 1992 cowboys were the best team ever.

Nothing worse than the guy going over-bored in the opposite direction to showoff to the media world that they are not biased.

And lets also note we have not won a playoff game in a decade. This has been a team onthe dumps all in all for a long time. I'd be skeptical of any writer that hasn't touched on that.

I personally think we are a team that can go 2 ways this year. This can go 7-9 with bad luck to 11-5 and a chance. It's a fine line.

I think Goose is good.

He is going to help Cliff, Drew and the rest into the HOF

My understanding of Gosselin is that he has a very respected opinion when it comes to the Draft (regardless of his research tactics), but not such a great prognosticator. My understanding is that He is one of the ones that stood up for Michael Irvin to get in the HOF, so I wouldn't consider him anti-Cowboy, just someone who is not "Pro-Cowboy"

Lions' fans, and Cardinal fans as well, will sometimes pick a real NFL team to root for.

I thought Gosselin was from Pittsburgh, but regardless of the details, Rattmatt got it. Gosselin does like the Lions, and until the last year or two always picked them to do well, even as they finished as one of the five worst teams in the leauge every year.

JMO from listening to Gosselin many, many times over the years, but I think Gosselin sees himself as a large step above your average peon beat writer. He's an NFL writer, you see. He doesn't want to be confused with someone who only covers the local team.

He also has a lot of that East Coast thing going. (That's one reason I was surprised he was so down on our team when Parcells was here.) He's obviously not from this area, and possibly wishes he were somewhere else. He's always throwing out shots at Cowboys fans, as if they're ignorant hicks who aren't sophisticated enough to know the league. As highly regarded as his draft info is, I've always wondered why he stayed here. Surely plenty of other papers would like to have him. Maybe Belo just pays him too well.

Anyway, I think it's a mainly his going out of his way to make sure everyone knows he's not a Cowboys writer. I could see him taking lots of backlash for his articles, and that making him even more resisitant to saying anything good about us. So there could be a little vicious circle going on there. But I've also always wondered if Jerry ticked him off at some point, because he's just so unusually resistant to say anything good about us. I mean, we're not the Cardinals.

(Though he did give Wade props for his defense lately. That surprised me a lot.)

Geez. It's not his job to be a homer or pro-Cowboys. It's his job to tell is like he thinks it is. Nothing more.

I'd take Trotter over Bradie or Akin anyday of the week.

His intensity alone would be worth it. He would be team captain from Day 1.
