I gotta disagree with the Campbell/ Schott comparison. Campbell is a locker room alpha whose career trajectory only pointed up. He got to work with Sean Peyton for a few years prior to his selection in Detroit. He was ready to make the next step. Schott's career has been going sideways for about 20 years and 7 different teams. His selection reminds me of Jerry overdrafting injured guys trying to look smarter and outwit other teams. He sees something in Schott nobody else has seen. What are those odds?

It would also change if Dan Campbell had been hired here. No way would he have been as successful. He wouldn't even have had those coordinators.

You should never compare another situation in the NFL to here. This is a completely unique situation. Our owner is a lunatic.
Good stuff mister

That’s like saying “Tom Landry was an Asst and no one knew so give this guy a chance cuz he’s an Asst” Come on Goose
yeah whenever the pitch is “there are a time or two where something went right so there’s a chance this does too”

“Ol’ Shotty” is the right coach at the right time for this elite organization. You’ll see. We’ve just had a few bad breaks at the GM position the past 29 seasons.

If that’s how you want to judge a new hire, I would rather take my chances on a younger coach like a Ben Johnson or Aaron Glenn or even a successful college HC . Instead of a 20 year assistant who has never been a HC with the 10 teams he’s been with. There’s a reason for that. So good luck hoping you’re smarter than them. The guy has made a career just with his last name bouncing around the league.

Idk, man. I thought Campbell was a pretty solid hire. Dude had the "it" factor written all over him. I'm listening to the Pittsburgh post game press conference right now and the way Brian talks, he reminds me of a young Bob Stoops. Good energy, confidence, strong presence, articulate, but not overly complex. He sounds like a coach. Does that translate to the field? His first year as OC was stellar, although McCarthy was calling plays. Year two he was handicapped with a bad line and a lack of firepower in the backfield. They did enough to win games with Cooper Rush at QB, but how much of that is attributed to BS? That's a question I can't answer, but those inside the organization can.

I think the initial shock is starting to fade. Still pissed they didn't even try to make it work with more qualified candidates, but I can see why he's the guy. He was successful in Seattle. People point out his offensive rankings, but he's always relied on a prevalent running attack to control the game. You aren't going to light up the stat sheet with that philosophy, but if it's effective, you increase your chance to win games.

Russell Wilson ran him out of town and proceeded to fall off of a cliff. In 2020, Brian's last year in Seattle, Wilson posted 4,212 Yards, 40 TDs, and 13 INTs. Seattle was 12-4 that season, finishing 1st in the west but fell to LA in the Wild Card round. In 2021, Wilson went for 3,113, 25, and 6, and hasn't had a comparable season since then. BS moved over to Jacksonville as part as Urban Meyer's staff which was a disaster all around. He's been in Dallas ever since. We don't know what sort of input he had throughout the week with prep work, but we do know he had an opportunity to pick the brains of Kellen Moore and Mike McCarthy. Say what you want about their coaching styles, but they have strong offensive minds, and I'm sure BS picked up a thing or two in the last three years.

To be clear, I'm still not happy with this hire, but I'll keep an open mind about it. He's Marty's son and I have a ton of respect for coach Schottenheimer. Maybe he surprises us. I'm far from optimistic, but I'll openly invite being proven wrong. Best of luck, Coach Schottenheimer. You have a helluva tough job to pull off. I hope you can.

Posted to put you guys in your place.

I wish I could see your arrogant faces when you read that.
Have to work on my arrogant face look before she ding you the picture.

Sorta fascinated by the hire. Don't agree or
disagree with it. It's definitely an outlier for any prominent sports franchise in any pro sports league.

NOr a confidence booster in any sense when you look at the number of first time head coaches who fail

In no way, shape or form can Shotty draw parallels to Andy Reid. Reid has been a fixture with both the Eagles and Chiefs; and prior to that the Packers; he has won 3 Super Bowls with two different teams.
Scotty on the other hand has been a journeyman coach holding various positions with a multitude of teams for roughly 28 years…one would think that if he had talent as a coach it would have risen to the surface by now. All he has is a famous last name, recognizable in NFL circles.
