Amazing how jr can always pass with no help at restricter plate races.

It's called side drafting.

But isn't it amazing how when Mikey fails, so does Jr.? ;)

It might have something to do with the Earnhardts revolutionizing retrictor plate racing. It was Earnhardt Sr's passion.

Funny but the only way Gordon was able to beat Jr was with help from lil Jimmy and a caution. Gordon even said that he got the win because of Johnson and the caution. That he didn't believe he coulda held Jr off.

Jr hung back for a good amount of the race and when it came time to make his move w/ twenty laps to go, he did.... he moved up 6+ spots in 3 laps and up another 5 to take the lead w/ three to go.

DEI had a rough day... Michaels engine blow and Tru's involvement in that pile up...

Junior had the car but he didn't have the luck

How does 3rd place out of 43 equal a failure??

Call it what you like, but that was one of the most exciting Daytona finishes in years... 6 cars fighting for the win...driving at the exact same speed... and bumper to bumper... and lets not forget the lead changes during the last 5 laps...

It was an awesome race.

Kurt Busch I think was the big factor, it is difficult to make a move on the leader when he has his teammate up there with him. Myself I think this will be the year that Jr. wins the cup and even though I would have loved to see Jr. win back to back Daytona 500 I'll take the 3rd place finish and consider it a great start to the NASCAR season.

I'm with you... this is Jr's year.

Busch was a two faced pansy arse punk yesterday. He was suppose to be buddied with Jr but when he moved in, he blocked Jr and pushed Gordon ahead.

Boy, I wouldn't want to be Busch next weekend... I bet he doesn't finish the race in California... Bad Juju is coming for him

Again... why is this a "team" sport?

Oh come on, evidently you watch a lot of NASCAR and you know those verbal deals mean nothing when the green flag drops. LOL... I expected the move from Busch after all he is a teammate of Gordon. Only guy that could have helped Jr. was Tony Steward and he kind of fell off the pace quickly on the restart.

Because, without your team members you don't have as great a chance to win a restricter plate race like the Daytona 500.

Bumping, pushing, drafting and blocking.. they all play a part in the win. Without Busch and Johnson, Gordon wouldn't have won and he admits it. He as much said that Jrs car was too fast at the end

Jr nearly took the race, but of the 4 cars that were in shot of it, he was the only one that wasn't owned by the same team.... he was on his own

"Team work" is the only reason Gordon won. And it is how Jr won last year and Waltrip and Stewart in the past... teammates pushing you, blocking opponients and giving you a draft to keep your car cool and gas mileage at peak

Oh I know about the verbal deals, but Busch screwed up... If he helped Jr, I believe he could have been the only defending Cup champ that started the season with a Daytona win... I could be wrong, I'll have to check

Poor Tony... He and Waltrip lead the race more than anyone and Waltrip blows an engine and Stewarts engine just didn't have the HP to finish it up

I think next years Daytona 500 is gonna be an awesome site.... Jr, Waltrip, Gordon, Johnson and Stewart

I sure would have loved to see Stewart get his third win this weekend.. qualifier, busch series and nextel... that would have been awesome

Why can't they just race for themselves...

I promise you... someone would win without the help from anyone else... promise! ;)

So he's supposed too stay with Jr even if he has a chance to win by going with someone else?????? At the end of the race it's everyone for themselves.

Actually, if you remember right... Busch's lil move screwed Johnson too.

And it is everyone for himself at the end... I agree

If he had gone with Jr, he may have won... Jr was faster than Gordon and so was Busch. What Busch did was take his teammate out (Johnson) and left Jr behind him... no bump, no push, no win. If he followed Jr up he would have had Gordon and Johnson behind him and neither want Jr to win.. they would have done whatever it took to get Busch in front of Jr

Last time someone won without help was Bobby Labonte I think... or maybe Dale Sr. Neither one had friends out there when they got their wins

Since the restrictor plates, the speeds and engine power haven't been as much a factor as gas/ pit strategy and the buddy system.

DEI dominated restrictor plate racing until Waltrip and Jr won Daytona and their cars were put on display for the season (three of the last 4 seasons)... gave the others a chance to study Dale Sr's design... now the field is evening up and bumping and drafting is going to play big

As the actor that played Ralph Earnhardt said.....the winner ain't always the guy with the fastest car :D

I don't care how he did it....he won and hopefully it will be the first step in championship #5 :D
