Our goal is to win the Superbowl every year, and this may be the year.

"SuperBowl" shouldn't be uttered....but, any franchise that doesn't think that, whether realistic or not, is a bunch of idiots...you don't just play to play, you play to win it all (and of course, they make truckloads of money)

I think his point is to hopefully stay healthy at LB, get a running game going and keep the big plays coming and take it one game at a time. I happen to agree with that - problem - he didn't say it that way because he's a goof.

Those were not his opinions.

Having said that, I agree that it would be nice not to hear those words every preseason.
I love for my team to shoot for the highest goal, but no need to mouth it in the press--it just sounds so phony.
But coming from Gosselin, it rings a bit differently because he is massively negative on Dallas right now anyway.
This is the guy who ranted that carter was a horrible fit for the 4-3 Will. I won't forget that for a few more months still ;)

We haven't seen carter as a Will in the 4-3 tampa scheme yet. I think he'll be really good, but you can't say an opinion is stupid when it hasn't been tried and tested.

True.
But two months later after listening to enough people that were familar with the defense, Gosselin came back and said it looked like a good fit for Carter.

My point with him is he has often been off-base when he generates opinions on his own without some sort of expert-in-field concensus.
He does real well at gathering information; hence the great track record on how the draft will unfold back when he was doing that each year. He personally knows little about personnel. But he was great at gathering data from GMs and scouts.
That's neither bad nor good, just how it is.

Before the 1999 season, people would have thought it absurd for the St. Louis Rams to even be thinking about the Super Bowl. But guess which team went 13-3 and won it all that year?

Thing is, I really don't view any of the players as having an entitled attitude, as Gosselin is trying to convey.

I don't think it's an issue of "entitlement", but more an issue of making SB talk an unnecessary part of the offseason discussion.

Articles from last offseason alone:

Jones admits SB window closing for Cowboys

Garrett, Romo deny window closing

Jerry Jones: I decide when the windows close in Dallas

Mosley: window was never open to begin with

DeMarco Murray: Super Bowl in Cowboys' reach!!

Except the draft.

The draft isn't a product of Gosselin's opinions, though. He is successful precisely because he avoids his own opinions, acts like a reporter, and reports the consensus opinions of others.

The irony is the more he functions like a journalist and the less he deals out his own opinion, the more successful he is and the more respected he is.

He isn't the only one. I'm reading a book by Bob Oates, a respected reporter for the LA Times back in the day, and later more of an editor type. His opinions are odd and quirky - and some "opinions" are profoundly off the mark ( 1990s Dallas Cowboys were a WCO team?? Landry was a 'passing coach' ?? ). But the book I'm reading of his is full of small notes from people who don't see enough print. There are Clark Shaughnessy quotes in that book to die for.

I don't think it has been an issue since Garrett has been head coach.

I don't blame the effort that past couple of years. Even Doug Free, who sucked, but it wasn't due to a lack of effort.

I really think, to his credit, Garrett has cleared that stuff.

Like him not as a HC or OC, I do think the culture is very good now.

Jerra knows how to make money. He is tricking all of us Cowboy fans to his **********. A SuperBowl.

That's why he is rich. What team would want to watch an GM come out and say that he just wants to win the division, or the conference, or the playoffs? That is not the goal.

Parcells never had a QB. Even Romo in 2006 wasn't the same guy he is now or was in 2007.

People who bash Parcells without taking into consideration that he was handed Quincy Carter and asked to win are willfully ignorant.

First of all, I did not bash Parcell's. I just think he gets more credit than he deserves in regard to his time in Dallas. Yes he inherited a mediocre team and when he left, they were still mediocre.
You can color it any way you want to but he had the teams attention when he arrived but by the time he left, he lost it and them.

The goal every year should be Super Bowl. Saying it out loud, being over-confident, talking to the media about is never a problem if the team has the talent and coaching to make it happen.

I find it curious how a man who makes a living writing about this sport can be a moron to those who are merely fans.

I wonder is there any such thing as laser keratotomy for homer eyes?
